just had a question about the 1 time relief a team can get from releasing a player. i know if say the Knicks release Alan Houston Dallas with Finley they will not have to pay the L-T but they still count against the cap. however my question is will those teams still be paying them their salary? or does that figure just count against the cap? just wondering because if the Knicks are still paying Houston his 14 mil or whatever he makes he could sign with a team like the Pistons or Spurs for the Vet minimum and get paid twice to try and win a championship. i know this doesn't really effect the Cavaliers but i was just wondering.

yeah they still have to pay them but the money they owe due to being over the LT is no longer figured so owners save a lot. and they can be paid double perfect exampe dikembe mutumbo. 2 teams were splitting his 14 mill salary and 1 team was paying him like a 3 million dollar salary.

Exactly, the cap casualties will still be paid their salariesby the teams that cut them, so the players probably won't mind getting the minimum from any team out there, because these guys are grossly overpaid anyhow. I wonder how many favors the Knicks camp had to call in to get this one pushed through

Their salaries also still count on their team's salary cap. The way this helps is that they don't count towards teams having to pay the luxury tax so they save money that way.

So if we go over our 28 we will be in the luxury tax correct?

I don't believe we do. I think there is a gap between the cap and where the luxury tax kicks in. This is not a concern for us this summer.

The luxury tax won't effect the Cavs until future seasons. Like when they resign LeBron or add players using their cap exceptions.
The Cavs do have to follow cap rules and not go over it this year because they cleared so many salaries and got way under the cap.
