Rajon HOT WATER Rondo

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I kind of like that last point. Most great teams had someone who was at least a bit of d-bag on the team. Someone who cares more about winning than being liked.

I know @RchfldCavRaised covered this on one of the pods. Jarrett Allen holds his own on the physicality of the paint, but he is thoughtful and cerebral on the floor. He's not a thug, despite his similar looks to Sweet Daddy from Good Times.

This team has a few budding stars, but like Tupac so aptly taught us... Ya' need a thug in yo' life. With Rondo, we might have our thug.

I'm trying really hard to embrace Rondo. I am a petty man who holds grudges, and I truly hated that Celtics team.

There are a few things that picture reminds me, however.

Rondo played with KG, and we have all gushed over video of Mobley making mirror image plays that KG used to make. Feeding the bigs in good spots has been missing since Rubio went down. Garland isn't exactly great at feeding the post, unless it's an alley-oop floater. Rondo playing with Mobley and Allen could be really special.

I also remember thinking Rondo was a thug, and hated how he would rough up our guards. We haven't had a thug at guard since Delonte went crazy. I don't think we have a single thug on the roster. If Rondo does some dumb shit and punches a guy in the game, I'd kind of be cool with that.

You may appreciate in 2010 I managed a bar downtown and, after a playoff game Rondo, Pierce, KG and Leon Powe walked by; slowly. Rondo was in front of the pack talking shit. Someone I know may have thrown a bottle at them (it may, or may not, have been me).

I still believe that ya' need a thug in yo' life, and if John Beilein had a thug in his life, that meeting wouldn't have been a big deal. Rondo would have been like, " Yeah, thugs do get back on defense, coach. Wake up, old man."

That’s what made Kobe so great. Just so happened to be the best player on the team too…

Losing that game 7 in 2008 was not as bad as 2009, but it was really bad.

Wait, right after beating the Cavs in the playoffs the top Celtics wandered around downtown yelling abuse at random Clevelanders? That’s amazing

Yes. Not to be mistaken for the Original Celtics of '32

Based on cleaningtheglass.com Rondo is a really bad player. First of all, he's almost 36 years old. The Cavs will be his 9th team in the last seven years. Nobody who's had him since the '14-'15 season wanted to keep him.

Compared to Rubio he's almost five years older and four inches shorter.

In terms of points per shot attempt, Rondo is in the 5th percentile; Rubio is in the 32nd. In assists per usage rate, Rondo is in the 100th percentile compared to the 83rd for Rubio. One thing about Rondo - he can dish them out.

In turnover percentage Rondo is in the 0th percentile, meaning he's in the worst 1% of point guards in that category. Rubio wasn't great, either, but at least he was in the 24th percentile. This isn't a recent development. In the last seven years Rondo has never been above the 16th percentile in turnover percentage and he's been well below that number most years.

You'd think after all those years in the NBA Rondo would be better at protecting the ball, but he's the worst in the league. At the same time, he dishes out more assists per minute than anybody.Apparently he throws a lot of high risk passes that either turn out to be turnovers or assists.

In terms of on/off numbers, Rondo is awful. The Lakers were 16.9 points per 100 possessions WORSE when he was on the floor. With Rubio in the game the Cavs were 4.9 points better.

Rondo talked about being excited to play with three seven-footers, having never done that before. Maybe throwing the ball to bigger targets will reduce his turnover rate. But if he's going to help this team and replace Rubio he needs to cut way back on the turnovers while keeping his assist rate up.

But is he better than Pangos and Goodwin? That's the relevant question and the answer is yes. He can give DG a break without significant drop-off, and teach him some few veteran lessons along the way. Nothing to lose with getting him here so quickly IMO.

Right, we were not going to replace Rubio, a "starter on a good team" level NBA PG, with Rondo and expect similar results. Cavs need him to be better than Pangos and Goodwin, and we need a little more from everyone else.

Also, Rondo on the Lakers is a horrible fit, Rondo on the Clippers & Hawks is more similar to the kind of fit he would have in the role he will be playing w/the Cavs.

That’s was a buzz kill…..Hoping here we get Clippers Rondo

One thing to remember when looking at Rondo's stats for this season.

He shared the floor an awful lot with Westbrook. 1/3rd of his total minutes played for the season he shared with a guy who is an absolute ball stopper, who needs the ball in his hands as much as possible, and led to the Lakers having 2 non-shooters in their backcourt in their lineup.

It was predictably a terrible combo (-20.6 net rating with Rondo and Westbrook on the floor together), and once you add in LeBron it never made sense for Rondo to see much PT as he is a 3rd guy who needs to control the ball to be effective.

Running the Cavs 2nd unit he won't have that problem and running with Garland as the guard opposite of him in 2 PG looks is juuuuuuuuust a bit different than running with Westbrook.
