There have been some rumors floating around that the Kings could be looking to possibly make a coaching change. Some say the Kings owners want to talk with Phil Jackson.
If they get rid of Rick Adelman then I think he would have to be put on the list of possible Cavs coaches. He's a proven winner with a long history of success from taking Portland to the Finals to coaching the Kings into a perennial playoff team.
If Adelman becomes available he would have to be a top 5 candidate.

hes not defensive minded. would not work in the east or with the roster we have now.

No Rick Adelman PLEAAASSEEE. The king of coaching collapse does not to again be the head of another supremely talented team. This guy has had some of the most talented teams in the NBA and they always seem to collapse

no way.....

the only thing i like about adelman-- is he has pete carrill or however u spell it with him....

i like the princeton offense that pete runs, because it relys on moving without the ball (which i don't remember this team doing it one time) getting a post player on the elbow with 3 guys running around is nice.......

"BUT GIVE ME A DEFENSIVE MINDED COACH"

I wish Czar would come back.... he was a great defensive minded coach...

I'm surprised people would turn down the chance at a long time proven winner as coach. Adelman has taken his teams deep in the playoffs throughout his career. This year's Kings weren't as good and had injury problems and personnel changes and still easily made the playoffs.
I think Adelman has used the style of coaching that best suited the personnel he has had. I don't see too many great defenders who were key Kings players in recent years. It seems that he's gotten the most out of the type of talent he's had.

I'm not saying Adelman is my #1 choice for the Cavs next coach but if he becomes available then he should at least be considered. Jackson is no longer an option and if Saunders turns down the Cavs or gets hired elsewhere and McMillan stays in Seattle then Adelman is as good or better than any other available coach who would be out there and merits consideration.

I would take Rick. The guy has a winning record and he has taken his kings to the playoffs in consecutive seasons. He is actually better than alot of the other coaches that are avaliable. I would take him rather than Skiles or some college coach, or even over Lambieer.

Yea, but that would do wonders for our team. That's what we need. The guys stand around because the coach doesn't motivate them to do so. If Adelman is brought in, our guys will be forced to move around and make good cuts to create open space. He'll teach them the way, that's what a coach is for.

If we keep Adelman we might want to keep Z. As LEBRON'S_PIPPEN says, the system works well with a post player. Who better than Z, eh?

That said, the problem will be defense. We'll probably score 105+ avg, but not get deep into the playoffs. LeBron will need a defensive minded coach (hint, hint, Nate McMillan) that will recognize that LBJ is a liability on the defensive end and will fix it.

Adelman has benefited from coaching two teams in his career which had tons of talent. He reminds me a lot of Silas who rode guys like a healthy Baron Davis and Mashburn to good records. It's a fallacy to think just because you're team does well that the coach is the reason for it. Both his Portland teams and Sacremento teams were supremely talented but this guy tends to get outcoached when he faces teams that have equal talent. His lack of defensive IQ and inability to make matchup changes are not something I want to endure after seeing the same things last year.

how many years in a row did the kings choke with that great lineup?what makes us think he can do better with the roster we have?i dont want him.

I'm not sure if going deep in the playoffs or losing to some of the best teams in the NBA should be considered choking. The Western conference has been so much more deeper than the East.
All I know is that Adelman has been to the playoffs every season throughout his coaching career, has taken teams deep and took Portland to the Finals. You coach to the strengths of your players. I don't recall the Kings being loaded with strong defensive players. Doug Christie was the only one known for D. Webber, Divac, Peja and Bibby aren't exactly lockdown defenders.

My conditions on considering Adelman were if Saunders turned down the Cavs or took another job and McMillan stayed in Seattle. Saunders is still the frontrunner and strong possibility but I think McMillan is staying in Seattle.
After those two what really is left out there? Musselman looks to be heading to Orlando.

If Flip and Nate aren't available and Adelman gets let go by the Kings, I still say he's as good or better than any other available coaching candidate who would be out there. I'd prefer a proven winner over another Wittman or Lucas type which is all that would be left.

lol you guys cant be serious, this guy is an elite coach. Been to the finals twice wcf with kings and is always in rthe playoffs. Dude has had to deal with countless injuries for his teams and always has his team playing damn good ball. You guys who are doubting him because of defense need to look at his personel. Mike bibby outside of jeff mcinnis could be one of the worst starting pg defenders i nthe league, catino is ok, peja is awful while thomas and skinner are both nice but undersized. His old portland squads could d anybody up i nthe league.

Pioneer he reminds u of silas? lol first of all adelmans players love him, second of all his teams execute offensively better than 98 % of the league. If this is true then he would be an excellent choice.

I'll give you guys some news too, rick is a better coach than both nate and flip. Everything people complained about when talkin about silas rick is great at. Dude always has a consistant roatation and no matter who plays for him he gets the most out of them

Its his fault chris webber is made of glass and peja is the most one diminsional all star ever?

He reminds of Silas as people say he MUST be a good coach since his teams has done relatively well. Certainly reminds me of what people said of Silas when the Cavs hired him. Remember his Hornets team in trying circumstances (death of Phils, move of franchise) made the playoffs and did well. Now after actually watching Silas coach, it's obvious to me he rode the immense talents of a healthy Baron Davis, Mashburn, Magloire, etc.

Coaching is about getting the most out of the players you have. If you have poor talent, a good coach can make you get a few more wins. So that's why coach of the year goes to guys heading teams that were predicted to do poor. If you have mediocre talent and a mediocre coach you do mediocre. Now let's say you have a supremely talented team (Which Adelman has been blessed with over the years), add a mediocre coach and that team will still do well. They just won't do as well as they could which Adelman's never did. This isn't rocket science. Sacremento for years before Webber got hurt was as talented as everybody else and he got outcoached in the playoffs year after year. This didn't surprise me as I actually watched his coaching jobs in Portland year after year. The Blazers was ridicoulsy talented (Drexler, Kersey, Porter, Buck Williams, Cliff Robinson, Ainge, etc.) and watched them blow games and seiries for years against teams they should of beat. Sound eerily familiar to the Kings. I've seen Adelman coach for years, his system is good, his coaching ain't.

Silas's teams didn't do crap compared to what Adelman's teams have done. There's no comparison between the two. Adelman is the far superior coach.
Adelman twice took Portland to the Finals and I'd say both times the opponents, Detroit and Chicago were far more talented teams.
Losing in the playoffs to a Lakers with two all time greats can't be considered a sign Adelman is a bad coach.

I still feel he's gotten the most out of his talent. He had good teams and took them as far as they should have been taken. They got beaten by some of the best teams in the last 20 years.

If Adelman becomes available he would be one of the top 3 available head coach candidates. I'd personally prefer a coach with his track record over the junk that would be left out there with Jackson gone as a possibility and if Saunders, McMillan and Musselman are no longer available. Who else that would be left under that scenario would be better?
