Ricky Rubio - Take the Money and Limp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Pretty impressed on how Rubio didn’t want to come as a Cavalier before last season started when he was traded for Prince. Now he wants to be with us together. Credit to Koby and organization for this.

I love Rubio, loved him when he got him and hope he’s back sooner than ever.

Te amo!

Rubio didn't want to come here because he was tired of constantly being flipped from rebuilding team to rebuilding team. His mentorship and play made his contract number valuable but ultimately when his mentorship ran out he became overpaid and teams moved him on to the next young team he could help.

This contract put him in line with backup PG money so once he is done mentoring our young guards, he will still be a paid accordingly to his role, as just a backup PG.

I still think if we can maximize his value to the team and bring in a 3rd PG with potential upside to ultimately take over for him. We should be ready to give minutes to a 3rd PG that can soak up minutes when the opportunities come and take in knowledge from the bench when not needed.

Welcome back Rubio, I hope you get back all the way healthy because this team fell apart without you.

“It will take me 10 to 12 months to play again, but I will not obsess about it, I will try to enjoy every stage. I think about it as if they had given me a year to grow as a person and as a player, to come out stronger”. added the 31-year-old point guard.

On the other hand, this is the second time that the European base suffers this terrifying injury, since the first one he experienced in his rookie stage when he was part of Minnesota Timberwolves

So likely not till first of the year. ?
Setting up for LBJ's return in 2023.

Depends where the reference point is for the 10-12 month statement. If it is from the time of the injury, he will be back before the end of 2022, and possibly at the start of the season.

I've read around the All-Star break several times. That sounds about right.

Although I'm certain the pressure will be there to do so, I hope he doesn't rush things, and comes back when he is fully healthy.

I see Fedor reported we wont be trading for him.. and also Evan Dammarell 2 mins later

I genuinely don't care if Rubio gets on the court in 2022-23, but I do really hope he's around the team (lockerroom, sidelines, film room, etc). They have enough guys to play the minutes without wearing dudes out for now. But his intangibles are what I think is needed most immediately.
