Farewell Robert Traylor, RCF's bench player of the year for the 2004-05 season.

I hope we'll end up resigning him later, if not, there's always the UKRAINE TRAIN! Gotta love the vet minimum guys :chuckles:

It makes you wonder that if we hadn't traded for Jiri Welsch, the capspace we would have saved would have possibly meant Tractor could have stayed a Cavalier, plus have a 1st round pick.

Also surely we could have signed Traylor and used him as trade bait. He turned down bigger offers to play here under Silas, and his value would have risen slightly this season. He could have got us a second rounder or something along those lines. Anyways, whats done is done.

I like organizations that reward effort. Now, everyone knows I'm not a big Traylor fan but he worked real hard and showed a ton intensity during the stretch run. If we resign Z, Traylor brings a certain amount of toughness to a rather soft team. I think he was worth the money and I don't like the message this sends to other players about the Cavs. You keep players who show the kind of intensity Traylor showed at the end of last year, especially when they have some talent and have a cheap contract.

This better mean that the team is planning to resign Z and will throw a max contract at either Redd or JJ

Karma brought up a great point about the Welsch trade. If it wasn't made than Tractor's option may have been picked up since Jiri's contract wouldn't be on the books. The Cavs also would be in position to draft a good young PG prospect since they'd still have their #1 pick. That trade really has come back to bite the Cavs.

I think it might be tough to find another veteran big man who can give the Cavs what Traylor can at the price he would have been paid. This move is a big mistake if Traylor is then resigned later this offseason at a higher amount.

The pressure is now on little Danny Gilbert and his crew to make a major splash in free agency. I expect major additions, not a bunch of role players being signed. If they want to create even more cap room than they sure as hell better use it wisely and for major upgrades to this roster.

Everyone here has got to understand that we're not turning down his services. This move is strictly business-related. The 1.76 million worth of cap space is much more important to have now than potentially paying 2+ million to Traylor later. To Gilbert, that few extra thousand dollars a year is nothing in comparison to losing a bidding war to one of the SG's or Z because we're a million short. He's looking to the long-term security and goals of the organization, not a one-year option.

I have no problem losing Tractor if that leads to resigning Z and adding a top notch SG. But if we don't, we lost a real leader on the court who came with very little salary attached

I agree with Pioneer10. If not working out the option means we are working on getting Zydrunas back, I am all for it.

If Tractor isn't in a Cavaliers' uni next season, I wouldn't weep, but I would miss his energy off the bench.

^ Thats true but hopefully we can find another "hidden gem" in the draft this year like we did with Anderson, that will be a worthy replacement.

I don't think that we would want to find a servicable big man in the draft. If anything we should try to get that young PG that we've been talking about. Sean May is an option, but our frontcourt needs leadership. Z is by no means a leader. Gooden isn't anything close. And Anderson can't really speak English. So we would need a vet leader up front: Traylor fit in well, and so might other players.

I think this move speaks loads about where Gilbert is heading. If Tractor isn't good enough to resign, it means we are going to do something major this year. The buzz is that we will renounce Z and sign two or three impact free agents, but who would that be?

Also if Trac wasn't good enough what does that say about Newble/Pavlovich/Jackson/Welsh? I am not sure that any of them (maybe Newble) made the contribution that Traylor did last year.

Consider this, if we renounce Z, and Traylor is gone, which two or three wide bodies are we going to have to play, and how is that going to affect our SG and point guard needs?

i think sean may will command leadership..........the dude will be a force.

Traylor will be picked up by somebody. He had a good year last year, and there are many teams that could use a big man lift off the bench next year.

I don't know much about him, so I can't make that call. I'm sure he could be a good vocal force on the floor, but he lacks the vet status that makes the young kids listen. Also, even though he's a big body, he's still 6'9 and undersized for the C, the position we'd be addressing. It's a possibility, but the pick would probably be better used to draft a young PG.

I hate to see Traylor go. I just hope that we arent in a position late in the offseason where we're going to have to pay more money for a lesser backup than Tray. The FO better do some good things with all this cap space thats getting cleared up.
