Ummm, neither espn or nfldraftcountdown.com even have bios on this cat. Can you say undrafted FA? Unfortunately the Browns can not. :thumbdown

Re: Draft: Round 7

Looks like a versatile player who is athletically gifted. The Browns weren't exactly "good" special teamers last year.

With the maximum 10 picks and 7 on the 2nd day Phil adressed our special teams as well as added some depth.

Re: Draft: Round 7

Actually he's projected to play outside linebacker and gain 20 lbs, the browns were the only team that actually had him work out as a LB and some even considered him a 4th rounder... so we may have gotten steal here guys IMO

Re: Draft: Round 7

Moving up:

Virginia Tech safety Justin Hamilton is a player the Browns have been tracking of late. Savage and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham conducted a personal workout of Hamilton on campus Thursday - the second time a Browns contingent visited with him.

Hamilton, at 6-3 and 218 pounds, is an intriguing athlete rising on draft boards. He was recruited as a running back, was moved to receiver his sophomore year and then asked to switch to safety his senior year. That's why he began his final season under the radar on NFL draft boards.

In one season as starting free safety, Hamilton called the signals for the No. 4-ranked defense in the country and had three interceptions. Once considered a free-agent hopeful, Hamilton could climb into the fourth round.

Baltimore, Kansas City and St. Louis also are on to him. The Browns see Hamilton in a different light than the other teams. They project Hamilton packing on 25 pounds and developing into an outside linebacker. They are the only team so far to work him out at linebacker.

Re: Draft: Round 7

I suppose he'd make a nice project for when McGinest is gone but does this mean the end to Chaun Thompson :(?

Kamerion Wimbley OLB
D'Qwell Jackson MLB
Justin Hamilton OLB
Willie McGinest OLB
Andra Davis MLB
Matt Stewart MLB

A lot of players for Chaun to fight through, I had high hopes for him, hopefully he stays, I like em.

Depth my man.... Depth...

Develope a solid core of LB's and then develope more behind them much like the Steelers did with Harrison or like the Rats did with Hartwell....

I think we improved our LB core in Free Agency just by losing Ben Taylor alone. Subtract Wimbley D'Qwell Hamilton McGinest and we still come out on the plus  :chuckles:

Am I the only one that finds this to be odd? I guess he and Wimbley can learn the linebacker position together. I can't imagine trying to learn a new position at the level of play that you see in the nfl. You do see position switches alot, but I think players probably fail as often as they succeed. I guess if he makes the team then it wasn't a terrible pick...
