So long, David Griffin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lol The Bullshit Whisperer? Come on guys.

Honestly I have issues with the way Griff built the team.

We couldn't play defense worth a damn when it mattered most.

Lots of overpaid players on the roster.

We haven't had a consistent bench for 3 years.

This roster has lots of warts and now has few assets.

Let me ask you, did you think JR and Tristan were overpaid after we won the title?

If you trade Love for one year of George, you aren't beating Golden State anyway, and both LeBron and George are probably gone, leaving you with Kyrie and nothing to rebuild with. If this was Gilbert's thinking, then I am fully behind his decision.

You are not beating them with Love that's for damn sure, if you keep this roster LeBron leaves next year anyway, so the choices are:

- Do nothing keep Love, add some small pieces and get destroyed again

- You go All in on a PG13 rental, give yourself a much better chance.

I'll take the better chance please, because if we lose LeBron leaves either way, no matter if its Love or PG13, hes gone.

JR absolutely. There was no other team that was going to sign him. We bargained against ourselves. There was no reason to pay JR that much, fan favorite or not.

TT less so when you consider the Noah contracts of the world. But TT is still undersized and I felt like that contract was also too high. Not enough paint protection for that cost.

Who said anything about a championship window? We don't even have any chance at a good draft pick until 2021 if LeBron leaves. We would be the Brooklyn Nets for years before we could even start rebuilding if we have no one that we can even trade away for picks. I don't think trying to avoid a decade plus rebuild is a bad thing, especially when the moves you are looking at making don't make you appreciably better anyway.

I'd rather rebuild for the next 10 years as a result of trying to maximize the greatest player this franchise will ever see in our lifetimes, than hedge our bets and hop on the treadmill a little sooner.

I could care less about being the Brooklyn nets in 3-5 years. We will never have another LeBron. EVER. There's nowhere to go but down from here. To me, there's no difference between the basement and the 4th floor. Down is down.

This franchise would be absolutely nothing without LeBron. We honestly owe it to him to do everything in our power to win NOW. Not 5 years from now or even 3 years from now. What can we do to win one more title before he starts to trail off. None of the other shit matters to me nor should it.

Exactly. The only chance to string this thing out with Lebron past next season is to go balls to the wall, be aggressive and land PG13 or Butler. It does improve our matchup vs GS and if we win it Lebron and PG/JB might stay. As soon as Lebron leaves it is blow up time so I want to get the max time we can here.

Gilbert will want to make this franchise as attractive as possible...I think we make some big moves still going forward ..

This should be a no brainer. The Celtics mortgaged their future to get their big three and get just one title.

Of course, the Nets gave away their future stupidly to get Pierce and Garnet who were already over the hill and have nothing to show for it.

But we have a much better shot at a title with the right pieces - this year - than the delusional Nets is 2013...

You can't predict the future. Plan everything perfectly for post-Lebron and then Kyrie demands a trade months after Lebron leaves. You have to control what you can control right now... Go for it in 2018.

The one thing about Griff's exit is it will be rather obvious which side of the fence Dan is sitting on. The comments leave no doubt that the two sides were at odds with the direction we would take on personnel moves moving forward.

If the Cavs roll it back out with minor changes, Dan's main thought is team control of assets as a mitigation strategy to LeBron bolting. Or at least that is how it will appear.

I have a feeling Griff felt we needed a blockbuster ( say Love for a 2-way player like George or Butler ) to compete with GSW whereas Dan likely wants to stand pat. Next 72 hours will be very telling.

Well, what do I do with all those "Team Griff" t-shirts I made up? Because Griff was right, and Gilbert is wrong.

Gilbert might have the highest (net worth/IQ) in the world.

Good for you. Unless we were getting a George or Butler without giving up Love, none of these deals maximized anything. They plugged one leak while two more sprung up. If the deal doesn't clearly make you better, why set up the franchise to be destroyed for a decade over it?
