Sonics deal again?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lee I agree, I'm just saying a team wont save the full contract, they'd still have 2 pay. We could still use watson as a trade piece. The casual fan would just through out big names. We still have major pieces 2 make moves.

What ideas do you guys have????

This is where you are wrong, If the medical retirement goes through, then no matter who owns the contract, the insurance company pays the final year. Now, to us it has further savings, as in salary cap relief (no big deal, we are way over no matter what) and luxury tax relief (very big deal, saves us double his contract).....that said when he is traded the new team does not get either of these benifits. He still counts against the cap and against luxury tax but they still save the full value of his contract out of pocket.

Now, if we just let the retirement go through and not trade him, something else interesting happens, we would get a trade exception, probably for about half of his contracts value. This would give us the abiltiy to take back a player a team no longer wants without them having to take any of our contracts back. These are especially usefule to buy an extra pick (why we didnt get one last year) or aquiring the draft rights to a foreign player like the Scola deal from last year. How nice would he look in the wine and gold.

The issue comes down to things we are not privy to, including wine and gold, which is how much of a factor is money? These typpe of conversations go one behind closed doors when exact amounts are discussed. We know Gilbert is willing to spend, but snow could save in 12 million or so if lets him retire as a cav, which depending on who he brings back, might be to much to not let happen, but then again because of that, he is our best trade asset.
