Found a post on CavsFanatic by a guy who listed the salaries/cap/luxury tax from this season to 2010-2011...
So after some simple math of my own and taking into account the 2010-2011 contracts + 2010 expirings I came up with a pretty simple plan for the Cavs. The guy also estimated the contracts of the 2010+2009 1st and 2nd rd picks if they are even signed.
2010 Summer
Guaranteed Contracts:
Gibson+West+Hickson+Jackson+Williams+2010 1st/2nd+2009 1st/2nd = $27.3 mil
Estimated Cap: $65 mil
Estimated Luxury tax: $79
Left: (65-27.3) = $37.7 mil
FA's:
Chris Bosh/Dwyane Wade - $18 mil/?yrs, LeBron James $21 mil/?yrs
= $39 mil
Left: Other FA's before LeBron is signed, Big
Z/Pav/Wallace able to be re-signed to contracts over
salary cap
Total salaries so far: (39+27.3) - $66.3 mil, $1.3 mil over the cap
PG Mo Williams
SG (Dwyane Wade), Daniel Gibson
SF LeBron James
PF JJ Hickson
C (Chris Bosh)
Bench: Delonte West, Darnell Jackson, (Re-signed Big Z?/other vets signed before LeBron?/Varejao resigned in 2009?), 2010 1st rd pick, 2010 2nd rd pick, 2009 1st rd pick, 2009 2nd rd pick
Roster at 11
We'd already be $1.3 mil over the cap, plus 4 more contracts which could be taken up by all or a combination of Varejao, Z, Ben, and Pavlovic
So we'll be well into the luxury tax (I'm confused, do we start paying after we pass the cap limit or what?) But that team looks like the best team in the league with a big 3 of Bron, Mo, and Wade/Bosh.
I actually see this as VERY possible, most likely someone like Bosh. The only way a guy like Bosh or Amare wouldn't sign is if they wanted that extra year of security and with that probably an extra 21 mil+3 mil for the other 5 yrs so $36 mil extra they could get from their respective teams.
What do you guys think? Is it a good plan? Also a basic explanation on the luxury tax stuff would be appreciated, thanks.
