The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Did the Indians announce who is their 60 man roster thing. Also i guess a couple indians players did test positive for Covid, but none had more than mild symptoms.

A person tests positive for Covid-19. He goes into quarantine. But...every other player he has come into contact with has been exposed, and should go into quarantine, too.

Nobody yet knows the exact rate of the spread of this virus, but everyone agrees that it is more infectious than a simple flu...so probably above two additonal people infected per each person testing positive.

Given the fact that more than a few players/personnel involved with MLB have already tested positive, it is difficult to envision getting thru an entire season plus playoffs.

The math just doesnt encourage such a rosy scenario.

It's a 66 mph slurve ball.

The last time I looked at the protocols, they did not call for quarantine of every player that was in contact. They called for the positive test player/staff member to be quarantined and for the contacts to be monitored.

Now they have done some work on the Health & Safety stuff since, so I am not sure it is still the same. But if you were to immediately quarantine everyone a positive test came in contact with, you couldn't afford to have anyone test positive. So when I saw the procedure, there was a bunch of stuff about the number of tests and the type of tests and when the screening was to be done for those that were being followed after coming in contact with a person testing positive. And the main thing I remember was that all screening was to be done at home first, then before entering the clubhouse and at each step, if the person didn't pass, they were to stay away.

The idea was clearly, we will have positive tests, we will not know for sure if others were infected, we will test and screen the hell out of those that were in contact so if they were infected, we will catch it before they propagate the outbreak further, but we will not quarantine until we get an actual positive test. So you will see players still being allowed to play, even if they were in contact with someone who tests positive, until one of the myriad of screening protocols raises a red flag.

The sky is not falling, they will finish the season, playoffs included.

This doesn't happen for healthcare workers so not sure why this would have to happen for professional kidsports participants. More like daily, and say, q4h VS/symptoms checks while at practice makes sense for exposed but asymptomatic. They prob should also have access to testing then too over the next few weeks then since they are not the proletariat.

What about a player who comes in contact with an infected person, there is one of those too-common false negative test result, and then mingles with other players based on the incorrect assumption he is not infected?

Two things on COVID ...
Korea is now into 2nd month without stopping...
If there is an outbreak what will MLB do? Suspend season, wait two weeks and then start playoffs? Only 8 teams then after WC ... give those playoff players an extra cut of playoff revenue and MLB gets the lucrative TV money ...

We finally have details on the Tribe signing of draft pick Logan Allen.
Another close but still under-slot deal.
Slot = $1.2764m Singing = $1.125m

Note: Numbers listed on mlb site are similar: Slot - $1.28m, signing for $1.13m

Like I was saying they have all sorts of levels of screening in the protocols. And I am sure that the idea is to pick up on the asymptomatic player before he has a chance to spread. So there were daily at home screenings, daily screening before clubhouse entry, every other day actual Covid testing, monitoring by training staff throughout the day, etc. etc. etc. Clearly they were not relying on a single test to be the only indication to run up the red flag.

Clearly they want to catch the infection in asymptomatic players the moment that they show they are infected and before they have time to spread. Whether that is doable, I guess time will tell

It will be interesting to see how many catchers are added to be part of the 60 player pool. Currently the Tribe only has 2 catchers on the 40 man (& by extension the 60 player pool). I could see 3 more catchers added to the 60 player pool.

IIRC the 3 man taxi group will have a catcher in that player group & I figure that will be C Rupp or Beau Taylor.

Bo Naylor makes sense to be part of the pool to get development work & in order to catch/ work with the various pitchers in the pool but not in the majors/ on the 3 player taxi squad (especially when the Tribe is on the road & the rest of the pool is at Classic Park). I don't think only 1 catcher will be in Lake County for intersquad games & various pitchers getting their workouts in..

Any thoughts??

I see 3 catchers... you also have the former Chu kid and Collins who aren’t real prospects but if you need a 4th catcher, you will be tanking anyways. And' you need a bridge beyond Rupp and Taylor till Naylor.

And, I see Naylor added as you have Valera, Freeman, Jones, Hankins and Espino already on it. Plus, you can’t wait on his development. Drafting the OSU kid would have helped with depth.

Well maybe we should project a 60 man roster?

To me, you have of course, your 40 man roster, meaning you need 20 more players. Clase is out because of the suspension, so that creates 21 spots for the 60 man invite.

21 guys from my list would be who should be brought in. Most of our top prospects havent played above A ball, so i cannot see us bring them in this season for this. (Bolded guys are who I feel should be in camp)
