The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As to platoons and such --
Mercado would seem to be getting a shot at being the everyday guy there. DeShields has headed to DL, and I have seen no update as to the issue (is it Covid?) and/or severity, so that could open the door for Zimmer as a back up, or eventually a LH side of a platoon. I'm guessing Mercado gets a good shot to be "the man" in the early going.

I am sure Reyes is going to see time in the Outfield, too, and Naquin/Luplow will largely be a platoon....Domingo will be in OF/DH most nights, but could eventually lose AB's to Luplow against RHP if they give him that shot.

It is hard to see at bats for Johnson even if he makes the expanded roster...same with Greg Allen...just situational subs.

That was in a previously quoted post made by another member.

Santana's run production in the middle of the order.. is too valuable.. at the same time, his ability to get on base says lead off.. Perhaps there's another name that can be considered.. but only against off handed pitchers: Jordan Luplow.. His .320/.439/1.181 triple slash v LHP's is about as good as it gets on the Indians. Add to the fact that against LHP's as a starter, he'd almost guarantee two AB's before the opposing manager would be able to bring in a RHP.. This type of micro-managed exploitation of a players ability will be much more important in the sprint that should be the 2020 season?

Santana can lead off against RHP's.. This works very well as Carlos is vastly more patient against RHP's than LHP's... That is, he derives a much greater portion of his BB's by an almost 2:1 margin versys RHP's thereby allowing the hitters coming behind him to see more/most of any pitcher's arsenal for that day?

Thoughts?..

Thoughts?

With this
Santana draws too many walks to be that low. That would cost him a decent amount of ABs over the course of a season. Although, maybe not so many this season.

There's no mention of Santana batting 6th

I see the mixup.

It was this post that had me thinking Carlos was hitting 6.
Kiddo said:
Hernandez
Jose
Lindor
Santana
Reyes
Santana
Naquin
Mercado
Perez

That's the newest Santana not Carlos.

It looks like Lindor will be hitting 3rd and Reyes 4th, so do we want Los batting 1st or 5th?

That doesn't seem to be the case at all.

Carlos is almost certainly batting either 2nd or 4th, most likely 4th.

However, while we're on the topic, the 5-hole is a criminally overlooked spot in the lineup. Its importance is statistically equal to that of the 3 hitter while being just below the 2 and 4.

Finally finds a home for the season. Have to assume he regrets not taking a realistic multi year deal prior to the beginning of March

Are we sure anyone was offering?

Hernandez
JRam
Lindor
Carlos
Reyes

That's the first five pretty much every day.
You're probably right. I think that's what Tito will go with.

However, I still vote for Hernandez to hit 7th, which over the course of a full season would result in between 102-106 fewer PA's for him (according to Derek's numbers), and 102-106 more PA's divided up between Santana, Lindor, Hosey, Reyes, D. Santana, and Naquin/Luplow. Won't happen, but I'd like to see it. I think they'd score more runs.

Lineup Tonight:

Hernandez
JRam
Lindor
Carlos

Probably a matter of time before Tito just keeps rolling this out to let them find a rhythm.

Also, Spanish translator Agustin Rivero playing LF again.

Here's hoping we get to see the sixth inning of tonight's Intrasquad Game.. Sounded like James Karinchak was throwing everything he had where ever he wanted.. that FB/Curve combination out of the same tunnel can be devastating..

I mean he did play in the Dominican summer league for the Yankees! Maybe we may have a sleeper on our roster!
i'm sure the reason he wasn't allowed to hit was so teams can't get a scouting report on him.

Seriously, though, it was great to see Bieber go 6 innings allowing one run against a 7-man lineup. He had to face Lindor, Reyes and Santana four times each and he was complaining about not getting check swing strikes. What a performance! Looks like Beebs is ready.

Nice to see Domingo Santana hit a grand slam, even if it was off a minor leaguer (Gose). And Karinchak apparently got through his inning without walking a lot of guys.

Things seem to be coming along well except for DeShields. No new cases so far and it's been two weeks. No injuries except some back tightness for Luplow.

As far as I can tell, there have been no surprises except maybe Chang. Everybody is contributing. It seems like there are different names coming out of the intrasquad highlights every day. There don't seem to be any big stories like you often see in a full spring training camp.

Franmil Reyes was the undisputed star of the abbreviated March camp, hitting .444 with an OPS over 1.500 in 27 at-bats. He went 3-for-4 with a near home run Monday, so that's great to see. The middle of our batting order has the potential to do some serious damage this season.

With nine days until the opener, so far so good. (Knock on wood).

Beiber with 6 strong innings last night. He sure looks the part. 9 days and counting.

Question regarding TV. I read that Hamilton and Rosie won't be traveling with the team while on the road. Are we going to get away games on STO?
