The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Honestly, it's hard to blame Lindor. He's made it past the pre-arb years and is in the home stretch making record-level arbitration salary. It's hard to imagine the Indians are capable of offering him anything close to what he can get in free agency and even if they can muster an offer that Lindor accepts, it will surely hamstring their ability to put together help around him.

It is unfortunate that superstars like Alex Bregman and Ronald Acuna Jr signed pre-arb contracts similar or lesser to the one that Lindor reportedly declined after 2016. Ozzie Albies too, although I think he's not quite on that superstar level.

According to Keith Law, Lindor’s people wont even pick up the phone for the Indians. He has no interest in re-signing or even discussing an extension and will be a free agent.

Love Frankie but it seems the whole ‘I wanna stay in Cleveland’ bit wasn’t exactly true....

No one should have ever believed this. It’s generic player speak. Almost every player says this. He wants to get paid and he knows free agency is where he’ll get paid.

I'm listening to the Law interview right now:
- The three 10 team divisions proposal we saw last week.

- There are no proposals, there are no talks, and there are no plans to talk because the number of daily cases continues to rise.

- Universal DH was coming within two years or so is an automated strike zone. We might see both used in some capacity during a possible shortened season.

- Possible 28 man roster

- Keep upper-level minor leaguers playing sim games nearby to be ready for call ups

- No fans until 2021

- Players will likely not get all their money this year (this is because the owners agreed to give service time)

- Lindor hasn't said he won't re-sign with Cleveland, just that he won't re-sign an extension

- Bull and Fox tried really hard to get Law to say that Lindor won't negotiate because the Dolans won't pay enough anyways :chuckle:

Lindor to me likes Cleveland, but he knows his worth as a player and is going to maximize his money. Cleveland won't be able to get close enough to merit Lindor staying in my mind.

I mean if the company you have been with and like is paying ya 20 an hour and a rival will offer you 30 an hour and your current place cannot match it, then I cannot blame that person to take the offer and go to the rival.

Also I trust @BimboColesHair more than Keith Law in some ways regarding Lindor since most national guys speak for ratings and always seem to be negative towards Cleveland it feels like

I don't listen to a word that comes out of Keith Law's mouth. Guy is a biased idiot.

Be honest like Bauer and tell it like it is.

All the "player speak" and "management speak" gets old as s..t

BTW - Hi Gson
Hey Jups..

Yes..it's player speak.. The only way to maximize Lindor's salary is to sign a multiyear free agent contract. Seven to ten years at a high AAV is what should be expected.. With the cash crunch that should be expected for nearly every business... the team Lindor could sign with may be the one he's most familiar.. There are a couple events and more than a couple of teams that could become "flies in the ointment" about this potential.. There is going to be four premium SS's becoming FA's following the 2021 season, or, a virtual glut. Any team that doesn't resign their own (LA Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros, Indians) will look to fill the spot with one of Lindor, Baez, Correa, or Seager. There are two additional teams that could be in the market for a premium SS.. The Reds and Yankees fit this profile to a tee.. So, five competing teams with plenty of cash, ( much more than the Tribe) will be in the market to resign their own or sign our SS.

With the economic recovery from the pandemic issues and limited discretionary spending, a "two step" sign and trade deal could become the Indians best path to resolving this coming storm, imho.. That is.. the Indians and whatever team creates a deal that is contingent on Frankie signing a long term contract. As long as the world isn't brought into the negotiations.. it can happen, however unlikely..

Reality will be that Lindor is going to become a FA, either for the Indians (not getting traded) or a team the Indians trade him to.... With the ability to resign him being limited at best.. and the Indians competing for the AL Central and World Titles still very real.. the tribe may end up with a draft pick like the plan they had with CC.. before he was traded to the Brewers after the Tribe fell out of contention..

Stranger things have been known to happen..

We'll see..

I wouldn't mind a repeat of the Sabathia trade where we get the next Michael Brantley for Lindor, even if we have to wait 2-3 years for him to arrive.

I really don't know how to react to the Lindor stuff. He's my favorite player now and one of my faves ever. I hate having to take it and know that it's just the economics of baseball realizing that if this were any other league, the team would have the ability to keep him with a salary cap. Fucking sucks.

I still say Matt LaPorta was starting to at least be serviceable right before injuries started hitting him hard.

As long as there's no Matt LaPorta......
I'll still take a top 30 prospect as long as you can promise me he won't get domed by a pitch in the Olympics and never be the same again
