The Cleveland Cavaliers are in search of a new head coach. There are many candidates for the position which include Larry Drew & Avery Johnson.
That being said, I think the best route for the Cavs to take is to hire a former coach of this team in Mike Brown. He had a winning record of 305-187, the second most wins in Cleveland Cavaliers coaching history after Lenny Wilkens, and led the Cavs to a Finals appearance. In 2009 he was NBA Coach of the Year. He is known for being a defensive expert and today's Cavs are known for being bad at defense.
I want to point out that he has experience coaching former Cavs standouts Kyrie Irving and Lebron James. Kyrie has described being coached by Mike Brown as a "learning experience, to say the least". Mike Brown also has experience coaching numerous stars of the Golden State Warriors, including Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green. The Cavs could make certain moves in order to lure these players to Cleveland, including the hiring of one of their former coaches.
In order to make this possible, I would trade for none other than Jimmy Butler.
Cleveland trades: Collin Sexton | Jordan Clarkson | Kyle Korver
Minnesota trades: Jimmy Butler | Justin Patton | Tyus Jones
Following the Jimmy Butler trade, I would find J.R. Smith a new home at Golden State. Since J.R. Smith singlehandedly won a Finals game for Golden State last year, they would be eager to have him on their team. They will also not want to lose Klay Thompson (UFA) and Kevin Durant (player option) for nothing next year.
Cleveland trades: J.R. Smith | Ante Zizic
Golden State trades: Klay Thompson | Kevin Durant
Finally, I would do a trade involving George Hill. Boston needs a more conventional point guard and Kyrie Irving will be eager to join his friend Jimmy Butler and old coach Mike Brown.
Cleveland trades: George Hill | Sam Dekker
Boston trades: Kyrie Irving
PG: Kyrie Irving | Tyus Jones
SG: Klay Thompson | Furkan Korkmaz
SF: Jimmy Butler | Cedi Osman
PF: Kevin Durant | Larry Nance Jr.
C: Kevin Love | Tristan Thompson
Coach: Mike Brown
