Did DePo elaborate and put analytics into layman's terms for the ignorant in the room?

Sure, but it won't help.

"Framework to help make decisions in uncertainty"

"Its not about numbers and spreadsheets"

A head coach calling offensive or defensive plays is really not a big deal to me. Like half the league does it including almost all of the top NFL offenses.

The bigger issue for Kitchens was the fact he was just completely incompetent.

He didn't know how to prepare a team on a week-to-week basis as a head coach. He was extremely insecure about his inexperience. He clashed with his very talented veteran offensive coordinator from virtually day 1. He didn't listen to his analytics staff at all. And most egregious of all, he simply ignored the weekly game plans in favor of calling whatever plays he felt like regardless of how much or how little they had been practiced.

I would prefer Stefanski not call plays too, but really have no issue if he does.

I may be way off but I think some fans become obsessed with play calling because that's their sole focus when they play their Madden football games. I also think Freddie let himself get so absorbed in play calling that he neglected other critical parts of the job. If he had given over play calling to Monken from the start he might well still be our head coach. I will be okay if Stefanski chooses to call plays, but I hope he doesn't. The job is big enough for a newby without trying to do things others can do as well.

No...we'll just think we learned something important towards the end of April. We'll match up our "board" with the draft picks, and either celebrate or howl in outrage in our certainty that our individual player projections were correct.

All that really matters is what ends up happening on the field in September, and while we all have our guesses/projections, none of us really know. I'm not trying to sound cynical or anything - it's just that there have been so many offseasons where I thought "we're finally going to turn it around", then had Lucy yank that fucking football away at the last moment, that I've finally learned not to believe shit one way or the other until the guys actually start to play games that matter.

I think we'll learn something about philosophy based off our draft strategy and the positions we target. Depending on what we do in free agency and the draft, it might tell us what type of offense we're looking to run, and what areas our staff feels needs the most work.

I'll be interested to see if we continue the Dorsey trend of blowing through accumulated assets to go for it now, if we'll go back to targeting the market inefficiency of future draft picks being undervalued compared to present draft picks, or if we'll saddle up somewhere in the middle.

So let me get this straight.

He confirmed that he is still in the process of putting names together for his defensive staff and the process is in its infancy. Dustin stated that Wade Phillips was a done deal.

He confirmed that the report about turning over his gameplan to the analytics team each week was false. Dustin reported this as fact.

Don't let @SanduskyCav hear you talking about his bae that way! :chuckle:

(just kidding @SanduskyCav)

(kinda)

I think the actual substance of what he says can be meaningful........if he gets in to the detail / nuance of what he envisions. But if is just "So excited to be here with this franchise that has great tradition, fans, yada, yada....".....I hear you.

But I assuredly will be very excited if he publicly speaks to the dynamics of how football and analytics will fold together, his experience with it in the past, his personal vision for it in the future......all of those things can and should lead to someone being excited.

I also think it will be telling how he answers the questions about 2 subjects....

1. Being passed over for the job. You know it is being asked. It's probably being asking in some condescending way by Grossi, and I just want to see his answer.

2. Who will call plays. I think Kitchens' made a huge miscalculation here.......and truly wanted to be an OC and not accept the responsibilities of being a HC. My hope is Stefanski is going to help but mainly empower on offense......with guys that know and believe in his philosophy. I really hope Stefanski's focus is on culture changing, rallying everyone across the org and sticking to the broader leadership / accountability aspects this team needs. Surely he will input on offense and we should want him to but I think Freddie couldn't see the forest for the trees, because he was entirely too involved in one aspect of the team.
I hope he's pissed off he didn't get the job. A quiet chip on his shoulder out to prove how good he is will silence his many critics. Tony Grossi? Why isn't he banned from these boards like Sam the Bullshit whisperer?

If he succeeds it's really going to make Dorsey look bad and Depo look good.
