He's lucky to be in the NBA, and I think he'll be out of it within no time unless he makes something happen. He'll be back in the old country teaching kids basketball and talking about what could of been.
Cavs mismanaged him throughout his time here. He should have been pegged as a 2 and a part time 1. Not a 4 and 3.
Cedi was supposed to be a tall, lengthy, quick and shifty shooting guard that could guard multiple positions. He now weighs 215 pounds which is too much and as a result of whatever they tried to transform him into he has lost some of his quickness and shiftiness.
Last season he played almost exclusively the 4 which is ridiculous. Now it looks like it's going to be the same under Beilein.
It's one reason I like Brad Stevens. The guy keeps changing things up to match the talent available on the floor. Ainge may have screwed him in terms of providing elite talent, but Stevens always seems to put a good team out there, and to maximize what he has to work with. The offense actually changes depending on who is on the floor.
Anyway, back to your point. Cedi is a natural 2/3, and anyone who plans to play him at the 4 needs to be replaced.

I think a lot of people are judging him harshly from pre-season. I think he is going to settle in and be pretty good. Defense and consistency is his main worry right now. If he can work on those, he can be pretty good. I dunno if he is a starter in the future, but he really doesn't need to get a lot better to be a really good player. Clean some stuff up and improve 1% in a couple of areas.
Look at Jaylen Browns numbers compared to Cedi. Brown is marginally better and just got offered 30M per year. I think everyone is going overboard here. This is a perception thing. Cedi wasn't ready for the role he got last year. As a 3rd or 4th guy he is going to look good. He needs to develop some chemistry with the other guys. He knows how to play with good players imo, he just can't be your best player in the NBA.
Criticizing too harshly based on preseason? sure.
Still, my point still stands, he was misued and miscast. He was supposed to be a different player based on what I saw from Eurocup and earlier in this career.
Crazy that he weights almost as much as Nance and has 38 pounds on Clarkson.

If he does take that next step up to say 15/5/3 and hits 40% from 3 and playing better defense he could get a pretty decent offer from someone.I think Cedi played his best in the last 30 games of the season and that's when the light went on for him and the game slowed down. 15 ppg and 40% from 3.
I think if he had been able to hit the ground running at the beginning of last season, he would have been give alot the opportunities to handle the ball and be a primary or secondary ball handler. The roster was almost demanding it especially when George Hill got injured. The problem was when the game finally did slow down, the roster had settled into having alot of ball handlers and Nance had been given the green light to do whatever he wanted.
It goes back to timing and I think for Cedi to fit into this team, it will be playing hard defense and wait for his opportunities to clear the way for him and the rest of the young guys. He will have more competition for minutes now with KPJ and Windler.

Don't think there is going to be much out there in the free agent market next offseason.
Jaylen Brown just got almost 30 million a year like Cavatt stated...Cedi should have never played the 4 last year. Anyone who watches video of the games he played the 4 would clearly see he was way over matched at that spot.
