That's exactly the type deal we would be looking to make at the deadline ...I'm sure it's a scenario we have on our radar, and is one of many of the possiblities that couldl exist around the deadline.
Alot of competitiion will exist around the leagues contenders as well, but, we could have the pieces needed.
Having Lebron makes us a flexible team, and both Marion and Lebron are special breeds that can assume numnerous team roles..
I agree that an impact player like Marion is surely the type that we should be eyeballing around the trade deadline.
However, wouldn't these two factors make the Cavs shy away from Marion specifically?:
1. Marion would expire at the end of the year. I would imagine we'd have to give up all of our expirings as well to get him. However, just having Shawn come off the books wouldn't be enough to get us under the cap, and it's only once in a long while that we have the kind of trading firepower with expirings, etc., at this deadline. Wouldn't we instead look to use those magic bullets to land someone that we could keep for awhile and grow with, rather than just a rental? Seems too much like a "Brewers get C.C." thing to me.
2. Isn't Marion represented by Dan Fegan? I could understand bringing Marion here if it was understood that we could sign him to a fresh deal after the season. However, after Andy's debacle, Fegan's the last dude I would trust to negotiate with us.
So, in my mind, I feel like we should eye up more permanent options, someone we can add to our core and really use for years to come, no?
I certainly think that Marion's talent is the kind that we should set our sights on... I don't disagree with that. I just feel like his contract situation directly conflicts with the bump in talent it would give us.
W&G, in my short time here, I've learned quickly that you would surely have a better grasp at the Cavs thinking on this matter than I ever would. Am I on point at all here?
