Any one of their cheap young players and/or lottery pick this year.
Paul George: "I prefer to play in LA"
Cavs fans: "WE GOT HIM NOW BOYS!"
This has been a remarkable day on this board.
Walks where? He just fucking said that's where he wants to play.
I think today is an incredible example of a fan base turning bad news into good news. Paul George had one way here, and even then it was a long shot. By him saying he prefers the Lakers, he gave Indiana another option.
Somehow, someway, this has turned into a good thing here. I'm dumbfounded.
Yea, of course I would. But I also think if we manage to get George for that, it's abundantly clear it's because the Lakers believe, no matter what, he'll leave next summer and go there.
No way Indy leaks this story... so why would PG's camp when he could walk to LA next summer without possibly having the Lakers give anything up?

If I were the Lakers I'd wait it out ...keep my players and just sign him next year...theres no rush...NY made that mistake with Melo when it was clear he was going there anyway
Sandusky, Broussard, Woj, Windy - all of these people have mentioned rumblings of a PG13 trade, and many said the Cavs are a possible destination. Then just a bit ago McMenamin said that the Pacers were the ones who reached out. Now as of right now I'm still not at all confident that PG13 ends up a Cavalier, but my god man STFU already. These fans just lost the finals to a historic team and they want something exciting to post about, and there's not much else to post about for the Cavs other than trade speculation (next season seems forever away, we have no cap space, we have no 2017 picks).
I don't think you're seeing the larger picture here.
If Paul George and his agent are serious about going to LA in free agency, why the hell would they put LA in the difficult spot of having to give away assets to trade for him?
Paul George just out the gauntlet down today. He's not staying in Indiana. So indiana now, 100%, needs to broker a deal that gets them some value back. If George wants long term success in LA he back-channels news to them he's coming in 2018, but keep the assets they have to bolster the roster. George would play out 2018 keeping Indiana on the hook and they'd continue hopes of resigning him throughout the year. He'd get hero welcomes at every home game....
George went leverage route meaning he's playing his cards to exit. But the point remains, why put LA in this position when it'd be the Lakers weakening their team in pursuit of George.
The only thing that logically makes sense is he is using his leverage to manipulate the market in his favor. The Pacers are now dealing from a position of weakness because they either get back some value or he walks for nothing.
And any team that doesn't have some type of "wink and nod" approval from George isn't going to put serious offers on the table. There is a very real scenario where TT, Osman, and JR or Shump is the best deal on table. There's also potential to being a third team as well to increase value....
But this thing is alive.....don't know if we can get it last the finish line, but the rumors have already started. Woj is already talking on twitter about Cavs and Pacers talking...
Do that deal and the Lakers MIGHT win 35 games next yearThey don't have to go all in to beat an offer of Kevin Love. They can offer like two of those things, say Russel and INgram and then take back another contract like Monta Ellis to clear Indiana's books. There, that beats our offer and they still have Randle and this year's pick.

What if Paul George is trying to be a good guy and let the Pacers know so they can try and salvage something out him?
Telling them a year in advance he's gonna leave, and telling everyone else who may trade for him where he ultimately wants to end up.
That seems like an admirable thing, not some underhanded maneuver.
Who Cares? The Lakers. I think you are way off base man. They cant give up their talented young core to trade for a guy who has said he wants to opt out and sign there next year.Who. Cares.
They aren't signing him for 5 months. They're signing him for five years. They don't have to win right away. Why are people concerned with how good the Lakers would be next season? He's just told them, and everyone else, he wants to be there. He already knows they suck and wants to go regardless.
