Pistons And Knicks Make Offers For KG

LA Times - 12/04 - 1:05 PM EST (AP Photo)
An ESPN Insider said that despite the Pistons' heated denials, they'd offered Rasheed Wallace and Darko Milicic, and that the Knicks had offered the expiring contracts of Antonio Davis and Penny Hardaway, but that Garnett wanted to be a Knick and even made "back-channel" overtures.

"I would bet money," the Insider source said, "he will be wearing a Knicks' uniform by the end of February."

Lenard Issues Trade Request
Denver Post - 12/04 - 5:23 AM EST
Nuggets guard Voshon Lenard wants a key role again and believes it is probably best to go elsewhere to get his wish.

Lenard said Saturday that he has asked the Nuggets to trade him. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder started the first six games this season. But he has played sparingly since, and not at all in seven games, including Saturday's contest against Miami.

"It would probably be better to try a different situation," Lenard said. "I don't want to be anywhere where I'm not wanted. I'm somebody that wants to play."

Magloire Could Be Dealt Instead Of Gadzuric
ESPN - 12/04 - 1:18 PM EST
It's wise to amend the widely held belief that the Bucks will be shopping Dan Gadzuric now that Magloire has arrived. It's looking more likely that Magloire would be made available first, but not until the offseason. Bogut is adapting faster than expected to the big leagues, but the Aussie rookie will need at least one full season of mentoring.

Magloire, meanwhile, has only one more season left on his contract after this one -- both at $8.3 million -- and will thus attract significant trade interest whether the Bucks are prepared to move him or not.

I think Magloire would be very helpful to the Cavs Cause.

Milwaukee do need a power forward, so a Magliore for Gooden / ? could work.

Interesting proposition you have there Karma.

Magloire would definitely flourish by playing beside Z. He'll garner more meaningful blocks and will take pressure of Z defensively, as he'll be able to guard the opposition's best post player. And, we get someone that can play 35 minutes both at center and PF, also taking pressure off Donyell.

Salary-wise, it won't quite work out, we would need to throw in a player or two to make things match up...

We may have to throw in a Pavlovic or Jackson into the mix to make it work salary wise. We do need to be within the 25% gap. Not sure when Magliore becomes available due to the fact he was recently traded.

I wouldn't mind getting TJ's thoughts on this.

OK here is one possibility!

Successful Scenario
Due to Cleveland and Milwaukee being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Cleveland and Milwaukee had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Does Joe Smiths injury make a difference? I am thinking he is more like Gooden physically and gamewise.

So we trade Ira and Gooden for Magloire and Charlie Bell? Still works cap wise. Get us a future point guard really. If need be we could give up Wilks for Bell. (oh darn).

Thing is that Goober is probably a long term answer with the team if we want him. (and he is probably our most consistant player right now after Lebron). Don't think Mags is a long term answer as he wants to play in Toronto.

Another caveat is that Mags +- for Milwaukee is -23. Not sure if that is Mags or his fit into the Milwaukee system. Of course Gooden is a -2.3 probably because he guards the opposing starters and is replaced by Donyell when he comes out.

Magliore may not be a long term solution with next season being his final one under his current contract. However he will have great value in the market place, far superior to Gooden. Reason being he is a legitimate center with skills at both ends of the floor, and is also a former allstar. He is a physical big man which is a perfect compliment to Ilgauskas. Sasha, Luke and Henderson could also be included to help make this deal happen.

I don't disagree with you Karma. Mags is more of a legit center at both ends. And you are right about his value. He has been an All-Star, Gooden is a future bet. But I am not sure Coach Brown gives up Gooden. Look at it this way. As far as the cavs are concerned three guys show up and play strong defense on any given night. They are Snow, Gooden and Hughes. The others come and go on defense, but ol' goober is there pretty much every time. I am not saying he is really good at it yet, but I am saying he is there giving what he has. Unless Brown percieves it as broken, I doubt he tries to fix it.

I guess Ferry might make that call as he has certainly had to play against Jamaal and Z, and would know as well as any what he can do for us.

Looking at our starting five it would be Snow,Hughes, James, Marshall and Z. Mags would rotate in to replace Z then Z back in and paired with mags to rest marshall You would probably have Jones on the floor when Z and Mags are out there. You would bring AV in with Mags when he was healthy and productive. You still have Henderson and Hamilton to dig you out of injury and foul and Shaq trouble.

I think that rotation makes more sense than we currently have since you always have a shooter and an inside power house on the floor, to go with the main enignes of lebron and larry. You would always have an All-Star center on the floor. With either Marshall or Z to carry the offensive load while Mags is doing the rebound and defending the scoring position.

There is also an intagible veteran aspect to Magloire. He has been to the playoffs before and has won a few there. He will be comfortable with the small forward scorer (Mashburn).

The only reason I bring up this trade is because of Gooden contract status, not his current play. We all agree outside of the Clipper games he has been very consistent, and improved defensively. With Magliore's future in Milwaukee not certain, I was just putting 2 and 2 together. This is not a deal because I want to trade Gooden, but a deal we could make if we cant see ourselves retaining Drew.

The Cavs would be lucky to get Magloire because he is a legit power post up player who is solid defensively!

Giving up Gooden would hurt tho because he is a solid post player and the Cavs best defensive rebounder by far at this point.

In the end Id make this trade because the Cavs have a solid replacement in Marshall to take Goodens spot and Magloire would make up alot of the lost rebounding if Gooden was traded but most importantly this trade gives the Cavs a solid defensive middle man which the Cavs would be stupid to pass up!
