Two pending free agent additions

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dwags on Clevelandlive posted that the Indians have signed Roberto Hernandez and the deal will be announced soon. Also he states that the Indians are very close to signing Joe Borowski and that should follow.

Dwags has been right this offseason once already in leaking the Barfield trade so he has proven credible.

CDT...why are you trying so hard to bash Shapiro for attempting to fill out bullpen with as much quality depth he can given the resources he has to work with and the lack of a wealth of quality free agents to be had? It is not hard to see that your apparent disdain towards Shapiro has clouded your judgement and reason.

Honestly, I'm really liking the Borowski signing.. I think he can provide a solid closer and someone who can get out lefties.. Left handers were only hitting .191 off of him, so that's another plus..

But having a guy who closed 37 games last year is great to have... We needed a closer and if we do in fact sign him, would be a very good signing, considering the closers market..

The Roberto Hernandez signing, I don't get.. We already have plenty of right handers, we need another left hander.

Well the comment about the 42 year old costing the Phillies W's hasn't really boosted my overall confidence in the direction of the team..

Who says we have to sign bullpen help? We have a surplus of guys at crowded positions on a number of levels of the game..yet we continue to sign rejects from other teams?

Sorry...with all the big names flying off the market and the Tribe trying to scrape sloppy seconds off the FA list I'm not at my most optimistic..

Who do we have in the bullpen right now that you would be confident going into next season with? Miller setting it up for Betancourt? Jason Davis? Come on.
And who says we need help?
Shapiro's next target will probably be help for Cleveland's bullpen.

"It remains our biggest challenge of the off season," Shapiro said. "There are not clear answers out there, and it will involve us exploring every alternative."

What big names can help us now without mortgaging our future? Particularly at reliever.

I was implying we trade some of the unecessary players..for some bullpen help..instead of signing garbage.........I thought you'd pick up on that..

That is not at all a bad idea and I'm positive that Shapiro is looking into that, but that doesn't mean that you should knock him for these acquisitions, as you have. These were solid moves given the talent available and in no way signifies the end of the off-season for us. If he showed to be content with the bullpen after this, then there would be reason to worry.

Any update on this W&G?

Well, they finally got both of these guys signed ...didn't think it was ever going to get done.

As non-descript as all these guys in the pen we got are, they are all better than what we had last year. I think we still need one more solid back of the pen guy, and that would likely have to come in trade ...although Dotel could come on the cheap via free agency.

Borowski is a good signing for a 1 year deal. We need a frontrunner for the closing job and he's it. Adding depth to the bullpen is also a step in the right direction. We could try to get Arthur Rhodes back, considering he's healthy and wanting to return due to his past success here.

We should sign a starting pitcher. Vicente Padilla, Jeff Weaver, maybe even Zito.... they're all still available.

And we needed a good hitter. Thinking that the Indians would give out 100 million dollar contracts is dreaming... it's just not the right business decision, considering Travis Hafner will soon have to be extended. Signing someone like Julio Lugo would have been a good deal (4 years, 36 million).

Bellliard is a FA... he might want to return to Cleveland.

be happy your team isnt wasting $70 million bucks on JD freaking Drew and Julio Lugo.

Or 52 million just to TALK to a guy who might not even sign with your team..
