We finally pull a run off to take the lead and we let the one guy hit the game tier that I didnt want to see do it!!!That bum Pierzynski,o man I hate this guy.Hopefully we can still pull this one out.

Wedge is an IDIOT

Glad we got him locked up before he got away...if we miss the postseason this year that'll make.........0 playoff appearances since he took over.

That game is the only reason I'm still awake...goddammit

Now I'm going to go to sleep all pissed off.

Riddle me this...

I understand that you don't want to really rock the boat, and that was the main reason why the Tribe wasn't looking for a guy to come in and CLOSE.. A setup man was their target... However, with that said, shouldn't it be a golden rule that your CLOSER is your best/most reliable reliever ?

Call me crazy, but how can anyone feel comfortable with Borowski coming in to close a game out ?

Even though Betancourt blew the lead tonight, he's usually really reliable.. Raffey Perez has been very reliable as well.. But they're pitching in the 7th and 8th innings, and then you bring in a pitcher who is clearly nowhere near as good as those guys to CLOSE out a game...

Borowski is like a skinny Wickman... He really has trouble closing out one run affairs, and he always puts the tying or go ahead run on the bases...

He's not a guy I want in there trying to clinch a playoff series...

However, the Tribe has some of the worst approach hitters in the game.. They're all free swingers in any count.. They don't protect with 2 strikes.. They don't bunt... They don't hit and run...

They're way too flawed to win it all...

Unfortunately this is true... last night's loss really was a team effort. Blame can be put on our hitters, Betancourt, Borowski, and Fultz. Our offense is now terrible and most of our relievers are shaky at best. That just won't get the job done in October, even though the Tigers are trying their best to hand us the division. If we had even played halway decently the last couple weeks we'd have a four or five game lead right now. FUK.

I've felt the same way about our relievers until I thought about it and did some research.

Unfortunately, the reason our relievers look shaky is because our hitters are terrible right now. They have the added pressure of being down or up by 1 all the time...there is no cushion. In the last 11 games, the Indians have scored 29 runs...29. But, the reason we are where we are (1st place) is because over that same span the pitching has given up 29 runs...only 29. That's not just the starters, that is the entire staff. The Indians pitching, all of it, is why we are in first. Borowski may be Wickman light, but he gets the job done...just like Wickman. He has 31 saves in 35 opportunities. Of the top 10 closers in both leagues, he is 3rd in save percentage. Betancourt has turned into one of the top setup men in the league. If Fultz gets back to his pre-injury form, he will be our lefty stopper. There is nothing to really say about the starters...they have been outstanding. CC, Carmona, and Byrd have been nothing short of amazing. There was no one available that could have helped in relief, and all the other clubs not named the Angels have the same problem. So, I'm not worried about the pitching.

The hitting, on the other hand, now, that is worrying me. Our leadoff hitter leads the league in strikeouts. Arguably our best hitter has been in a season long slump, and then was removed from last night's game with "knee tightness"; not good. Our most clutch performer through the 1st half has been mired in a dismal slump since the beginning of July. The team has hit a collective slump that has just killed their momentum.

Lucky for the Indians, the Tigers have been even worse. If it wasn't for that and our pitching, we wouldn't be anywhere near fist place, let alone in it. The hitting and the slump can be attributed to 2 places: the hitting coach and the manager. The hitting coach for obvious reasons. The manager, for not shaking up the lineup; for not giving a guy pressing to hard to make something happen (read: Grady) a day off; for not putting a true leadoff hitter into that spot and moving the current leadoff hitter, who really is more suited to the 3 hole, to that spot; for not figuring out that our lineup with the most potential has never been set.

^ Yeah, you're right amon... most of our problems do stem from the weak offense. It's just baffling to me because our offense has been our strength for some time now. I know that guys get in slumps but I can't remember our team looking so bad collectively at the plate. What happened to our patient approach? What happened to wearing out the opposing starter by the 6th inning? We can hardly even scrape a rally out now. It seems like any time we do score it's a hit with two outs and we never can build on it.

Everyone just seems way too tight up at the plate. I'm not sure there's really much that Shelton can do other than to tell them to relax. Victor looked like he was about to murder someone when their CF made that catch last night. And I have no idea what is going on with Hafner.

And I think Wedge is trying to shake up the lineup a little bit. But he needs to get Grady out of the leadoff spot ASAP. I'm not sure what he can do to make these guys hit though.

Everything you said is spot on chief. The patience has disappeared. They were seeing more pitches than any team in baseball. Now, I think they are all pressing. They collectively look like they are holding a stick between their cheeks at the plate.

As for Wedge, I agree that he is trying to shake it up, but my beef is that he refuses to put Lofton in the leadoff and move Grady down. This needs to be done. If you do that, you could put someone in the 2 hole with some speed, like Barfield. He would be protected by Grady, and he can get a bunt down. Remember, when Vizquel got here he was all glove, no stick...but with the way the lineup was set, he became a very good hitter. I can see Barfield doing the same thing.
