Vegas Summer League: 7/16 Cavs vs. Mavericks 10:00PM EST *Link to Video*

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Maybe for the next summer league game, there could be a lottery to win TK's minutes.

One lucky fan will win the chance to demand the ball after every other rebound only to ignore all passing lanes and definitely don't share the ball with the guy who speaks the other languages.

Kinsey Assist Watch 09 Continues.....

110 minutes and counting.

Cavs finally won a summer league game. Kinsey had 20, Jawsd had 18. Rookies didn't do much, Eyenga never got the ball.

B Windy

Kinsey really doesn't have an assist?

Well at least we got a W...

Update on Kinsey Assist Watch 2009:

Kinsey has now played a total of 110.02 minutes over 4 games so far with ZERO assists over that span. He has been involved in nearly every offensive possession. How do you not accidentally have at least 1 assist? This blows my mind.

Seriously, you would want Eyenga on our roster? Not an iceberg's chance in Congo.

I would, without a doubt..

Keep him here, close to the team, close to LeBron, learning the English language & learning what it's like in the NBA.. and have him get time in the D-League..

No doubt I keep him on the roster

*Edit*: Meant to say keep him in the U.S.. Erie would be great for him to start the season, but keep him close to the team when they don't have a game.. if that's possible..

I made it a point to watch ChristianE on both defense and offense. I didn't watch the ball at all, but strictly wanted to see what the kid did or did not do. I'm tellin ya, this kid is nothing but hustle. Funny thing happened however, when I wasn't watching the ball and was watching ChristianE; I don't really remember seeing the ball at all. Huh?

Honest to goodness; I swear the guys subconsciously are keeping the ball away from Kid Congo.

He didn't have to get the ball for me to recognize a kid with as high an upside as anyone. He better be on the roster of 15. He needs to be kept real close at all times. He's for real.

I'm seen more than enough of TK already. Sorry bud.

Green and Congo need to get a plan and only pass to each other

Just got home (bah, couldn't last forever) and saw Tarence Kinsey had 20 points with only two made field goals  Since when did he become Johnny-aggressive-to-the-bucket?

Anyway, from peeping the boxscore, your comments, and Windy's comments, I see what was evident when I saw Eyenga hoop in person--he can't be in the D-League. It's way too much like the VSL and he's not offensively experienced enough to demand the ball. He'll just be cutting backdoor to the hoop nonstop and the coach will never run any plays for an offensively inexperienced teenage project. He needs to learn actual offense at a higher level over in Europe somewhere. If he's in the D League we'll see the occasional 17 point game, but far more 2-5, 4 point performances.

LMAOOOOOOOOOO..

stackmack: Just summer league? Not to the Mavs coaching staff. Mavs lose to the Cavs and are lined up running suicides (plural). Seriously.

Jawad looks like a guy on an NBA team's roster.

I love Danny Green's shooting mechanics and defensive effort, and he has the look of a rookie with a possible future in the rotation.

Christian hasn't looked nearly as raw as I had expected. He has some basketball skills and occasionally looks very smooth around the hoop. Great hustle and defensive potential. It really tickles my grundle to say that he actually looks like an NBA rookie with tangible potential in terms of basketball ability, rather than mere athleticism.

NOBODY else has looked to me like an NBA player in any shape or form. I think Kinsey came into the summer thinking he was going to light it up, overestimating his abilities and underestimating the competition. With each successive failure to have his way with opposing defenses, I think he has become more frustrated and has in turn started forcing things even more. Plus, he looks like he's completely forgotten to play solid defense.

Darnell has disappointed me the most. He looks outclassed and overmatched against big men that won't play in the NBA this season. I wasn't expecting him to put up points in bunches, but I hoped his jumper would be money and he would be able to push people around more. He's getting out quicked and out muscled on defense, and his hands actually look like their negatively charged to repell the ball as he goes for rebounds or tries to secure the ball in traffic. I'm not writing him off just yet, but I'm worried considering JJ's old man back.

Finally, and most obviously, the lack of playmakers on this squad is making it hard for anyone to look good, much like it looked last season anytime the cavs were up big in the 4th and sent the end-of-the-benchers in for fun and profits, only to see the lead shrivel like shrinky dinks.

I'll just look at it this way:

Summer League got no shit on a real man's league. You're going to see this type of stuff (I saw the first two games, so I know what you guys were talking about).

Eyenga does look like a great athlete. I suppose if the Cavs decide to keep him here, they could give him the occasional 5 minutes off the bench to spell LeBron, or otherwise get the garbage minutes from blowouts. They don't need to take him to the D-League, but he better learn English, and fast. I suppose he could really grow if he continues to impress his real coach. Scottie Pippen only had 20 minutes a game his first year, then started to take off. Eyenga might have the potential to be a 10 minute a game guy by the end. Just take Boobie's rookie year as the example. He excelled a lot by the end. Eyenga could do the same thing.

I already liked Green. He'll probably get the first chance to play. Mike Brown probably needs a little patience, but it's not like Eyenga or Green are like J.J., right?

Personally, no matter who's doing what in the Summer League, our coaches are very insightful. They're not going to be fooled by the freezes their draft picks are getting. They'll realize who's really special and who isn't. I have no doubt that Eyenga is being complimented for his efforted in some language. Green is probably doing the same. Even if Kinsey continues to do his thing, I have the most confindence in Mike Brown and his staff. As for Chris Jent, this is merely his test to be the new offensive coordinator . We'll see what happens in October, because there will clearly be a solution that will work. I just have that gut feeling.

Insiders, the coaches aren't fooled by this horrendous play or psuedo "scoring glory" games, right? Clearly, this will put Kinsey off the roster or give Eyenga more of a chance when we finally start the pre-season with our real players, right? Once they get a real point guard to play with, that spells out the true potential for Eyenga and Green.

I could envision him sticking around for the D-League, but I really have trouble seeing him getting any action on the Cavs this year. I guess alot people are wowed by his athleticism, but he's very raw in every other area. He doesn't look remotely ready for the NBA.

I disagree. The D-League is the same place where Darnell Jackson was dropping 25 points a game when he went down there. Plus, teaching and exposing this kid to the English language is a key component in my opinion.

We need him here in the U.S., if we let him back to Spain he could potentially get tied into one of those ridiculous buy-out situations, and his exposure to the team and the language and culture will be limited. Now that he's here, he should stay.

The Erie guys employ a lot of the fundamental things that the Cavaliers employ in their game plan. That's the best course of action, IMO, especially since being in Erie would open him up for stints in the NBA to come up here and practice with the team, play garbage time, and be exposed to our system during the long drawn out season where injuries and fatigue will undoubtedly open up slots on the roster for certain periods of time.
