As of right now it seems thoughs are the 2 most likely players the cavs can try to get with wallys expiring. If these players ended up being the only 2 available which one would you pick. I know carter is or used to be one hell of an offensive player. he was a solid shooter(not great)his whole career and was able to use his athleticism to his advantage, he also has been a 20 5 5 player his whole career and thats one of the things that not alot of people realize about him. He was never a great defender which was/is one of his downfalls and isnt a spot up player.
Im not sure about kirelinko. I know he is a very long great defender but thats about it. He wasnt able to be a good player with deron williams and carlos boozer so what would make you think he would be one here. I heard he was a solid shooter but I find it hard to believe he cant be a better player than he has been with boozer and williams with all the attention they recieve.

If i had to pick which one i would want id pick Vince Carter. He's on the downside of his career and proving to all his doubters he is a winner would be enough motivation to try to play along lebron instead of above him if he were on this cavs team. Defensively he would need a good amount of work but i trust mike brown to have him ready to defend once the playoffs start.

I gotta say neither man. There's no way I wanna see someone with that big of a contract for that long. Second, taking on Vince Carter only helps the Nets achieve cap space for 2010.

I want the Cavs to have as much space as possible for the summer of 2010, and neither of those players seem like enough talent to encourage Lebron to stay.

I think there will be many more players available at the deadline than just those two, players that can contribute much more with less commitment.

I'd rather keep an eye on someone like Joe Johnson. A star on a team that will likely struggle and want to get something for their all star, and a player that will fill a role, yet still expire in 2010.

There's a lot of talk about pursuing someone like Chris Bosh. If we acquire a player like Carter or Kirilenko, that idea soars out the window real fast.

Ak47, he's younger and there's still upside to his career, especially if he's playing at his proper position. He hasnt been able to play with Deron and Boozer because he's not a SF, he plays his best at PF.

VC of 2001 would have been great, alas AK47 is my choice.

AK47- Younger, fills PF spot, might perform better in natural position.
VC- Better offensive player, fills SG spot, will be a great option next to LeBron.

We will get more years out of AK, but I'm not sure if he can get us over the top. Vince Carter is basically a lock for at least this season. This gives us an awesome backcourt offensively, and we have defense (Delonte and Sasha) as well as shooting (Boobie) off the bench. Of course we are still left with two old men, a couple of rookies, and Andy in the front court. But if we solve one half of our teams big problems, LeBron should be able to take care of the rest.

As for AK, he could get us over the top by locking up our PF spot and producing a hell of a lot more than Ben Wallace, but numbers won't wow like VC will. AK will not get you twenty points a game. AK is not an elite rebounder. AK has a huge contract that was never warranted. And we are still left without a legit scorer or defender at the 2 guard.

I'd say VC if we are thinking short term, and AK if we have the assets left to make another deal for a solid defending SG.

If they would do Wally/1st for Ak47 straight up and they we can move Pavs/2nd for John Salmons then i'm game...

pg. Mo Williams
sg. John Salmons
sf. Lebron James
pf. Andre Kirilenko
C. Zydrunas Ilgauskas

But the possibility of Bosh sounds better lol, Gilbert has openly said he will be pursuing these big name guys in 2010..... so i doubt we take in a contract past 09 unless its for someone like melo....

Can you really consider AK47 a PF? He probably weighs like 220 lbs at most. Going up against KG, Brand, and a west team in the playoffs wouldnt be a good sight imo.

15 points, 8 boards 3 blocks and 2 steals....he is one hell of an athletic defensive power foward. Further, he will drop 3 or 4 diems a game from the pf spot. He is decieving on how strong he is. Bosh weigh 230lbs and everyone is in love with the dream of getting him. So does Rasheed Wallace, Haslem weighs 235, Rashard Lewis is 230..ok he is barely a pf, but you get my point about ak47.

We need to stop dreaming about getting Bosh. Only way we get him is if he forces a s&t. We have less than 1% chance at landing Bosh in free agency, just doesnt work money wiise. We would have absolutely zero bench. No centers, and no backups except who we draft between now and then.

Also what if Bosh signs a say 15 mil deal then the next year the deal is like 20? does that work? I'm not sure.

Bosh, Melo, LeBron & Wade are all Franchise guys...They won't be leaving their teams.

a max contract would pay him about 21 million the 2nd year, that would be him leaving money on the table. Only works if he is willing to come here for a little less. Players in their prime just dont do that unfortunetely.

Actually of those guys Melo may want to leave in 2011 when his contract is up because they will suck. Of the 2010 guys Bosh is most likely to leave because he is playing here. Although if I may I don't think Bosh is the type of guy that craves attention in a large market so he may not want to leave T.O.

It does not work, max increases is 10.5% for current team, 8% for new team...way over an 8% increase when the contract is over the max....20 million is over max,

Well shit that sucks because that would be a good way to keep us under the cap the first year then the next year crank up the salary.

Between those two guys, I choose Vince Carter. He's not a horrible defender. Besides look at Paul Pierce he was never known to be a defender. However, last year when he knew they had a legit chance to win it all he improved on that end of the floor incredibly.

With Mike Brown here, a defensive minded coach. Vince Carter will be pretty good atleast. The offensive punch he would give us from the 2 spot will be great.

You look at the really good teams, and most of them have three options. I think If we get VC, it will have a good impact on Lebron and Mo.

I'm not too sure about the whole 2010 summer and our chances of landing Bosh. In all honesty what if Bosh refuses what will stop Lebron from leaving. Are we going to bank our chances on Chris Bosh for Lebron staying? That would be the most stupid thing.

At the end of the day all the freakin players care about MONEY. Period.

I say we need to give Lebron a reason to stay. The only thing about VC that worries me is his age. If he was under 30 years old and had that contract I would say do the trade in a heart beat. But since that is not the case, Danny Ferry has to think this one through.

I've looked at our salary situation and if we get VC and sign Anderson Varejao this year we should still have atleast 15 million, ofcourse thats me assuming Av gets 10 million a year ( which he will not, I expect him to get between 6-8.5 million a year).

Mdog1, raises per year can only be 8%, so you could not sign someone for 15 million, the first year, then 20 million the next.

Ok, up until now, I've been a strong supporter of not signing any more contracts that go through 2010 so we could take a shot at Bosh. However, just thinking... is AK47 really that much worse than Chris Bosh?

Bosh and Kirilenko are the same size.

Bosh shoots around 49% from the field while AK47 shoots about 47%

Bosh grabs about 2.6 orpg while AK47 averaged 2.4 when he played PF.

RPG Bosh- 9 AK47- 6

However, Kirilenko averages more steals and more blocks per game, and is a much better defender. Does anyone else remember Bosh getting consistently burned last year on defense?

As of right now, if Utah is looking to move Kirilenko and it just takes Wally plus a first, I'd be all for it.

Actually, on further thought as I'm typing this... looking past 2010, would you really want AK47 and AV starting together? I'm not sure if their games mesh together well...
