woah now lets not get carried away here
OK so lets not get carried away that Jonas was a can't miss prospect.

Fuck Amare.
We don't need no Amare.
To be honest, fuck everything anybody has said in this thread. I can't stand draft/ pre-season threads.
Hickson had to go because he was a pre-mature LeBron dick rider. Fuck em.
I don't care about Omri's past because I simply don't look deep into anything because history shows that anybody who thinks they know anything ends up losing in vegas.
Dallas Mavericks.
So STFU and enjoy the ride. Andy is working on his game, Kyrie is working on his. This ain't ESPN. Nobody knows what they hell they are talking about.
What will eventually happen is the Cavs will face off Miami. It's no "Neverending Story". We can't wait for draft picks. We can't wait for a cinderella story. This is it. Michael Jackson. Fuck Michael Jackson.
We are going to beat Miami's dysfunctional family.
This is why I was mad we passed on Jonas. Even if TT and Jonas end up playing on the same level, Jonas is going to be more valuable since he plays Center.

Grant really needs to be right on Thompson. If he's the PF of the future then Grant made it a little harder on himself in trying to put together a frontline and interior tandem down the line. I don't think anyone projects Thompson to be a big time scorer or a player who can be a major threat and get his own offense. That means you're going to have to get a scoring threat at C. That is not an easy thing to do. I think we all agree you need a post presence offensively or a serious scoring threat at either C or PF. Scorers at PF are much easier to find than scorers at C.
I have accepted that the Cavs had Thompson rated higher and went with their BPA. Agree they should have taken their highest rated player but don't agree with their ranking. We'll have to wait and see how things play out as far as how each player pans out and how the Cavs continue to build the roster. Personally I thought Jonas was a top 4 player in this draft while Thompson was more in the 7-8 range.
It's going to have to be C by committee next season and for the foreseeable future. Varejao will get most of the minutes and I have to think Erden will get a full opportunity to prove he belongs.
The limited options and opportunities to get a C are why many of us weren't thrilled the Cavs passed on Jonas. It's been discussed a ton and we'll just have to hope for the best now. I think there is quite a bit of pressure on Thompson though. I mentioned before that the Cavs didn't do him any favors by building him up so much after the draft.
nobody said that. they said that he does a lot of what TT does while playing at a position that is far more difficult to fill.OK so lets not get carried away that Jonas was a can't miss prospect.
lol noThis line of thinking is pretty stupid. Let's get a C who is less effective on defense that Steve Nash, and pray that all the other teams planes crash because that is the only way we could win with a revolving door at C. Jonas is going to be a terrible defender in the NBA, and he is a terrible defender in the Euro league.
again, that works because:Unless the Cavs get a beast SG and SF because OKC did pretty good with Serge Ibaka and Perkins recently as their starting big men.
Ibaka has already improved his spot up jumper by leaps and bounds.

Smooth said:This is why the TT pick upset me... Not so much because I think TT is a bad player or will be a bad player but because C is more important positionally and a lot harder to find...
The other thing that is very noticeable when looking at the 2012 & 2011 draft classes is that the strengths and weaknesses were the complete opposite of one another and if the Cavs played their cards right, they would be setting themselves up in a great position... The 2011 class was a strong center and point guard class while the wings and forwards were a bit weak... The 2012 class is a weak center and point guard class while it's excellent at the wing and forward positions... If the Cavs could have came away with Irving & a center that would be sitting in a lot better position then they currently are in my mind.. They're still in a position to grab a good wing player, that didn't matter either way, but taking a PF might hurt them... We'll see...
In addition to all of that: it's hard enough finding a good center but finding a center that compliments TT will be harder because TT possess the skill set of most centers... The centers that fit with TT are hard to come by and why I worry he might be relegated to a 3rd big man role which isn't bad but not what you fully expect at #4...
The 2012 class isn't going to producing any worthwhile centers, so it's likely the Cavs take a wing player and hope for Drummond in 2013...
nobody said that. they said that he does a lot of what TT does while playing at a position that is far more difficult to fill.
even if people called Jonas a can't miss prospect (tho I wonder about the definition of "can't miss"), that's quite a bit different than comparing TT to arguably the most athletic PF in the game.
Just throwing this out there, but technically Dallas won it this year with a defensive frontline with Marion at PF and Chandler at C, Nowitzki really was playing SF if you think about it.
So its not out of this world to win with a defense only frontline.
