Just got a “Phase ll” and absolutely loving it… Definitely an upgrade from the Fatal Venom that I was rolling…

Billiards > Bowling

So a 2nd bowling thread... ok I can dig that.

I am enjoying the Fatal Venom I got last year. Finally got it drilled in December & I'm using it as an adjustment piece for later in the set. Had a handful of good games (235+) with it so I keep it in my travel bag to be available in both leagues I bowl in (different houses).

Bowled a 233 at age 13, still remains my all-time high :chuckle:.

Carousel Lanes on Ridge Rd was my stomping grounds. They got a brand new roof put on and went out of business yearsss ago. Now I feel like digging my ball out of the garage somewhere.

Carousel Lanes … holy shit, is that a wayback reference. Well done. May as well have gone for the double and mentioned Stardust Lanes (the giant one that used to be by the airport) too.

So I come into this discussion from a different angle. I bowled a lot as a kid (I grew up in Parma; it was the law that you had to be in at least one league), abandoned it as a teen, and haven’t been inside an alley in probably 15+ years.

Then a couple of months ago, I was searching on YouTube for videos. I work remotely, and sometimes like to have “noise that I can ignore” - something that breaks the silence, but without being overly distracting.

Lo and behold, I came across bowling shows from back in the day (70s, 80s, early 90s). And they were perfect. The main announcer, Chris Schenkel, had a voice that would calm down Valium. I might look up every so often, and it was kind of fun to see all the bowlers I remembered from that era. But it was good background noise.

That led me to today’s bowling. And I love it. It’s like I had been frozen in time, Austin Powers style, for a few decades … and now there’s all these bowlers with crazy outfits (hi Kyle!), and two-handed approaches, and all this new equipment. (When I last bowled, urethane was the hot new thing. Reactive resin wasn’t even a speck in its mama’s eye yet.) Oh, and the announcers. Rob Stone and Randy Pedersen crack me up. It’s almost like a real-life “Best in Show” when they are announcing.

I need to get back to the lanes soon. If I do, and that bug starts biting again, I might be asking for advice on what equipment to get.

Firestone Tournament of Champions used to be held in Fairlawn.

And is again. It was just there a few weeks ago.
Yep. Did the pro am there for a couple of years..
got pics with Walter Ray Williams, EJ Tackett, Francois Lavoie & others as I bowled with them.

That was in Feb 2019 & Feb 2020 (just before Covid hit)

Ok I’m completely out of it. Then again I left my job in Fairlawn the same year the Browns moved to Baltimore so it’s been awhile.

Quit bowling ever since my ex & I went out with three other couples. I had the brilliant idea to pit the wives against the husbands for a game. Not only did the wives kick our asses but every wife scored higher than her husband. Disgraceful.

Although the fall/winter season is now over, the time to update/ adjust the bowling ball arsenal is NEVER over.

I just added a new Motiv Venom Shock to be an adjustment ball at the one bowling center & had the span shortened on the Radical Squatch Solid & Black Widow Legend. Still need to have the span shortened on the Motiv Jackal Ghost.

If I can afford it in a month or 2 I plan to purchase a Motiv Carbide Tank. Threw it during a demo event in February and I know it will match for what I need.

I'm thinking about the Shock myself

The Shock has been around for many years (released in early 2014).
Many ball releases are now gone/ discontinued in a year. When something is around for 9 years, take note & pick one up..

Yea I got a Ripcord Velocity a few months ago that’s been discontinued.

Looking forward to that one.
