Travis Wilson - WR - Browns

Browns coach Romeo Crennel says third-round WR Travis Wilson isn't guaranteed a roster spot.
"He's trying to earn a spot on the team and he's still got a lot to learn," said Crennel. While this is probably posturing, it shows Wilson may have trouble finding playing time even with Braylon Edwards out. He's battling Frisman Jackson, Brandon Rideau, and Josh Cribbs for the No. 3 receiver role.

Awesome..head scratcher pick in round 3 from the get go and now he might not even make the team? Savage had him pegged late first early 2nd..wtf :thumbdown

It's very unlikely that anyone would cut a 3rd rounder. Just cause if they sign any kind of normal contract, it would put a hit on the cap the next year, and be a waste of about a half million or so dollars. Clarett got cut, but he had very limited bonus money in his deals(yet another dumbass move by him).

Coaches always say that shit about a guy "having to work to make the team, etc" It's better than saying, "he'll be on the squad automatically cause he is a high draft pick."

I hope it's just Crennel's tough love kind of attitude. If he's serious then Savage better quit gambling on draft day damnit..his 1st draft was not good at all.

no draft pick is going to have a spot for sure... jackson dropped more passes then bryant last season... wilson should get a spot...

HE IS GUARANTEED A SPOT! TRUST ME!

1. That is motivation talk by Romeo.

2. Romeo does not want this kid to hear/think that he's go a free ride.

3. Romeo is hoping that the kid hears this and uses this as motivation.

4. No 3rd rounder (besides Clerette) gets cut their first year. He will be given at least a couple of years to prove himself.

5. His competition right now is Cribs (Argues too much with Robiski, tries to do TOO MUCH as a WR. He is sticking to KR), Rideau (This guy is 50/50 this year. He will most likely get cut. His true competition is Frisman Jackson. Could rise to the occation...COULD!), and Frisman Jackson (who'se been consistantly vanilla. Frisman either gets cut, or locks up his 5th WR spot.)

6. This is the order of the WRs BY THE END of this year:

a) Braylon Edwards
b) Joe Juriviscious (sp) ((Should be 3rd receiver, but Wilson wount be ready)
c) Travis Wilson
d) Dennis Northcut (slot receiver/PR)
e) Frisman Jackson
f) Joshua Cribs

Odd man out: Rideau. He has been very dissapointed to the coaches.

please tell me how rideau has been dissapointing?

If anyones disappointing it's Frisman Jackson wasn't this guy the so called Randle El of the Browns 3 years ago? Well year after year he proves nothing. Rideau shocked coaches last year in getting to where he was.

Frizz is on the outside looking in if anyone is right now, they are all on the same level and he has been here trying to get on the longest..

And Law Reasons 1 and 3 are the same thing worded differently but nice try :chuckles:

The Browns were at a golf outing. Some guys from the O&B Report got to talk to the Browns.

And Rideau was very dissapointing in the last bunch of practices.

PS- Braylon Edwards was hittind drives Tiger Woods style. (Seems like his knee is ok).

Rlaw pretty much missed everything...anyways..

The WR most on the bubble is Fris. He has size and speed, but has yet to show the confidence, nor the hands to be a WR every Sunday.

Cribbs is still learning the position and they have said nothing but praises about the guy and how well he is making that transtion and how he could vye for some playing time this year at WR.

Rideau is far froma dissapointment. He wasnt even drafted, wasnt even expected to be an NFL WR and he is still hanging around, how is that dissapointing? He has solid hands and solid speed, he is a fighter.

Wilson was a quesitonable pick to begin with and I doubt he will be cut and this motivation like law said, but he could very well get cut.

WRs will be..

Bray
Joe
Cutt---cause the third WR is the slot, lol...
Fris
Cribbs
Wilson
Rideau on the practice squad.

Me and Mac see eye to eye on something :0 :chuckles:

Yeah Law you were off on this one Friz has been around for quite some time trying to get on while Cribbs and Rideau just got on last year. It's put up or shut up time for Jackson..the others have a year or so left to prove.

Cribbs will be our return man for a while, he is damn good.

As everyone has said... Wilson is getting some motivation talk from Crennel... Even Braylon wasn't guaranteed anything being a #1 pick... he had to prove it with his talent, same goes for any pick, regardless of the round.

Given this, Wilson should be the slot receiver. I have full faith in Savage's scouting ability... a guy with good hands, that can apparently catch anything thrown at him, should be a lock. Especially with Cutt's inability to convert on 3rd down, so many times this season. I was hoping for a better 3rd receiver, and just let Northcutt return punts... Travis might be it.

And u guys were right ON? How can u tell?

The season has not even started yet. We are all just speculating. And I was off? C'mon, ur guess is as good as mine.
