I wouldn't say they "squandered" anything with Ambrose. He is just really cringeworthy. His expressions, movements, promo style. He is very difficult to watch.
I think they absolutely squandered his post-Shield push. He was clearly the guy the fans wanted to see after the Shield broke up. They could have pushed him to the moon and the crowd would have ate it up. The problem was that they just shuffled him around in midcard purgatory for so long that his shine started to wear off. He also started to get lazier in the ring. I'm not sure if that's because he was unhappy that he never got pushed despite being the most popular face or if there's some other reason, but the quality of his work definitely fell off a cliff. By the time they finally put the WWE title on him, he'd cooled down and wasn't capable of putting on a good match either.
They really missed the boat with Ambrose. They should have rode the hot hand, but instead they kept shoving Reigns down our throats and Ambrose will probably never recover.
