Your 2019 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There is interleague play throughout the year now with each league having 15 teams.

Yea, but the final series of the year? That's kinda bogus.

Eventually they'll get rid of the pitchers having to bat.....damn you Ohtani.

I don't think anybody was suggesting saving Bieber or Clev for game 162.

The point @bob2the2nd was making was that in a close race, you aren't going to be able to line up your aces to pitch in a potential wild card game. All the teams in the race need to throw their best pitchers as often as possible down the stretch to ensure they even get to play beyond game 162.

By condensing Bieber and Clevinger into 4 days of rest between each start, it looks like you would get 1 extra start for Clevinger- ironically on Game 162

I actually think we all agree on the practicality of trying to line up pitchers at this point in the race.

How are those guys on shorter rest?

I'm generally allergic to pitching guys on short rest. Goes all the way back to the '99 series against the Red Sox. I think if you start doing that, it often ends up snowballing to the point where none of your guys are pitching as well as they are capable, and the bullpen gets burned out covering for the starters who don't have their normal stuff/endurance.

Hopefully that's how it actually lines up, because if we need to win game 162, that's who I want on the mound.

If things are already set, and we're fortunate enough to be locked into the playoffs, go an alternative route.

This is my personal opinion: I get we need to go for wins, but I don't think they will take that approach to be honest. I think they will end up putting in some bullpen/opener days in their especially with the extra arms they have and the fact they will also likely be adding Allen and Smith to the big club once the AAA post season is over. I mean here soon we will have Smith, Allen, Bradley, Zimmer and likely Velazquez added to the big club so most of the 40 man roster will be up with us down the stretch. That's 19/20 pitchers to pick and choose from for the stretch run so I think even though we are in a pennant race, we will do our best not to run these guys on short rest. Plesac I know will get moved to pitching every 6th/7th day (or put on an inning/pitch limit of like 5 innings/75 pitches) if possible soon, so I think that adds in some days to get all the guys in and keep everyone sharp.

We've been chuggin' along with guys out for awhile. You might as well keep going to see which of the young guys steps up.

Clevinger hasn't hit 100 innings yet and the Indians have won 10 of his last 13 starts

Bieber
4 days rest- x18
5 days rest- x10
7 days rest- x1 (post-ASG)

Clevinger
4 days rest- x9
5 days rest- x4

So lets see here, hypothetical schedule in my mind for the pitchers for the rest of the season-
Current schedule -
9/10-Plesac, 9/11-Plutko, 9/12- off day, 9-13 - Civale, 9-14 - Clev, 9-15 - Bieber, 9 -16 - off, 9-17 - Plesac, 9-18 - Plutko, 9-19 - Civale, 9-20 - Clev,
9-21 -Bieber, 9- 22 - Plesac, 9-23 - off, 9-24 - Plutko, 9-25 - Civale, 9-26- Clev, 9-27- Bieber, 9-28 - Plesac, 9-29 - Plutko, so it would be Clev on 4 days rest for the Wild card probably.

Modified schedule to keep Bieber and Clev every 5 days...
9/10-Plesac, 9/11-Plutko, 9/12- off day, 9-13 - Civale, 9-14 - Clev, 9-15 - Bieber, 9-16 - off, 9-17 - Plutko, 9-18 - Civale, 9-19 - Clev, 9-20 - Bieber,
9-21 -Plesac , 9- 22 - Plutko, 9-23 - off, 9-24 - Clev, 9-25 - Bieber, 9-26- Civale, 9-27- Plesac, 9-28 - Plutko, 9-29 - Clev, then Bieber is Wild Card Starter

Cause of two off days, you skip Plesac's next start and get him into a game from the bullpen, it would setup Bieber as the wild card game starter and give the rest of the guys extra rest as well.

This would be Bieber and Clev on a different style, aka 4 days rest....
9/10-Plesac, 9/11-Plutko, 9/12- off day, 9-13 - Civale, 9-14 - Clev, 9-15 - Bieber, 9-16- off, 9-17 - Plutko, 9-18 - Clev, 9-19 - Bieber, 9-20 - Civale,
9-21 - Plesac, 9- 22 - Clev, 9-23 - off, 9-24 -Bieber , 9-25 - Civale, 9-26- Clev, 9-27- Plutko, 9-28 - Bieber, 9-29 - Plesac then Clev on 4 days rest for the Wild Card game.

We would have to skip a start for Plesac and Plutko down the stretch, but at the moment it is almost impossible to avoid the final series without Plesac and Plutko being two of the pitchers regardless of the schedule hmm....Take your pick of the possible schedules. I like the 5 days for Bieber and Clev, which puts Bieber as the Wild card starter/game one starter.

Indians are 3-2 against the Sox in the playoffs, including three dominations but those two losses were absolutely brutal choke jobs. And you are correct...the ‘99 series included two starters going on short rest and the one game was an absolute blowout and the clincher was a choke. The Indians were blowing through receivers like crazy. It felt like John Valentin could not be stopped and it was the last year he did a goddamn thing. Trot Nixon too who did turn out to be a useful player.

I was a dumb kid and I was used to the Indians coming back from some pretty wild deficits so I stuck with game 4 pretty deep if not even the whole thing.

Pennant races - or I suppose they're more "playoff races" now - are so much damn fun.

Looks like Zimmer is being promoted too

Edit- and Bradley
Part of me wonders if this is in anticipation of a double header tomorrow. Forecast for tonight looks horrible.

Know that's not the only reason those guys are being called up, though.

You wouldn’t know we were in one if you listened to the top sports station in town today. I tuned in a few times during work breaks and heard no mention of the Tribe at all. This team deserves better.

Who cares about a playoff race when you have the 0-1 Browns that haven't made the playoffs in like 20 years playing on Monday night Football against a shit Jets team... And the Buckeyes big game at home against Indiana.

Zimmer may be, but I think Karinchak is cause of Hand to be honest. I don't think we add Karinchak just yet if Hand is healthy.
