Just to play for their summer league team. They have Hudson and Cassell. I would think that PT would be a big + on our side.

With Lucas playing elsewhere, it frees up Johnny Gilchrist some heavy minutes to perform his game. I believe with Lucas now gone to the Wolve's summer league team, he will no longer be an option for the Cavaliers.

Gilchrist is going to tear up the league now that he is gone.

I wish I could see some current pictures of Gilchrist because people keep talking about how strong he is and how good a body he has for the point guard position. They make it sound like he's a little Billups out there, just plowing and going through opposing players.

From the reports out of the summer league, I'd expect Gilchrist will at least be invited to camp. He could be a major steal - not too long ago he was a projected lottery pick.

how does that work ? is it whoever offers a contract ? or do we get i guess "DIBS" on him first ?

i didn't know they can go team to team ;)

THey are effectively free agents. Playing on the summer league team (as a FA) doesn't mean squat. Most of those guys are just trying to get training camp invites.

This is excellent news. I really like the way this team is shaping up. I've been hoping all along that we'd re-up the big man. Looks like we'll have around 6 million in space to get Sarunas or possibly Daniels. If we get a starting PG, it will be an "A" for the "Most important offseason in Cavaliers history."

I've been thinking about the roster lately and I think that Luke or Sasha is going to get dealt. There just aren't enough minutes for hte both of them. We are stuck with Newble and that crappy contract. I think that once we sign a PG, I could see Drew and Luke/Sasha dealt for another PF.

I also think that this improves our chances of getting Sarunas.

WHOO HOO! Bring your lil buddy with you Z! (Saras)

Mac I thought you were true to what you said. Read your posts dude.

Do we know the contract break down yet? Karma if you feel confident with only a three man big rotation of Z, Gooden, and Varejo - you are a more optimistic person than I.

What are you talking about? I said he was going to get $10 mill a year, he did. Thats the exact deal I said we should offer him, it's not rocket science.

I would keep both Luke and Sasha...even Newble. We dont have to move either of them.

We may struggle to find minutes for them, but that is a good problem to have.

Neither will land us a good draft pick, none will get us a good back up big man and we can sign a FA PG, so there is no need to deal any of them.

I think Sarus is pretty much locked for the Cavaliers now. He turned down offers from other teams and his bestest buddy in the whole wide world plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Everything is falling into place very nicely.

All these nice things happening with a rookie GM that we all once hated. Ah the irony.

Personally I would like a more hard nosed defender then Gooden. He isn't the ideal fit. But hey, in one offseason its hard to find all the answers. We had some massive issues with our roster. If we do sign someone like Saruanus, we would have filled the toughest holes. We have our sidekick scorer in Hughes, our shooter and point man with Saruanus, our advantage up front in Ilgauskas. These were areas that needed cap space to fix. This season was our last oppotunity with this space. Over the next year or two we can make cosmetic changes through trades or useing the MLE and such. We wont have many dollars spare at all once we sign our point guard, so we need to do our best to sign a veteran like a Dale Davis or Cliff Robinson to improve our current three man rotation. Maybe a player like Sasha maybe dangled out there.

ricky you are a moron.
you promised me he would get offered five max offers...

Good news. Glad to get this done and out of the way. I'm a little surprised Z got such a big deal.
I think a contract this size means it will be at least $9.5 million in year 1. With Hughes $12 million that leaves $6.5 left in cap room--that is if the cap does go up to $49 million.
Enough room left to sign Sarunas and add one other decent FA. The Cavs have to look to the frontcourt now. They're thin inside and don't have a backup C.

Gilchrist just worries me. He came in with a bad rap and then he's late for his first team meeting?

It's just not wise to be talking "major steal" on a summer league team, let's not stretch things.

With Z back, Gooden must go, teams will just pick and roll us and score at will.
