Z's Flight (Z Wants to Return to Cavs)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Z's Flight to DC

Like...

If I see so much as a PICTURE of Z in a Wizards uniform, Im pretty sure that will make this championship not as enjoyable.

Even if it is only a formality

Usually I find it hard to feel bad for millionaire athletes, but damn, all accounts on Z are that he's a great guy and you know this season has to be tearing him apart. From losing his starting role, to him not playing in his record setting game, and now he's a member of the Washington Wizards. Hopefully those papers are getting faxed to him for him to sign on his buyout.

Re: Z's Flight to DC

that photo of him walking down the hallway alone and ducking his head is just depressing. even if he were still with the cavs it would be a bummer of a photo.

Re: Z's Flight to DC

He did. I mentioned it in another thread, he has already returned to cleveland.

That's good news. Makes this whole buyout process seem like it's going smoothly.

*Knocks on desk.*

Re: Z's Flight to DC

I'm feeling pretty good about Z returning now. I don't care what anyone says, the team isn't the same without him. Crack on him for being old and slow if you want, but he's the heart and soul of this team and has been since 1996. I only wish I could attend the game when he finally does come back. The Q is going to be rocking with emotion.

Re: Z's Flight to DC

I wish it was PIP instead of Z :(

Re: Z's Flight to DC

poor guy...at least hopefully he got a good chuckle out of Jamison's debut.

Re: Z's Flight to DC

It seems strange that he's all alone and on a commercial flight. I don't know who would go with him, but it just seems odd somehow. Did Jamison fly in alone on a commercial flight?

Wiz fo are tight wads.....Gilbert prob sent his jet for Twan as he will Z soon.

Re: Z's Flight to DC

"I'm on a horse."

Those Old Spice commercials are obsessed with horses. The centaurian commercial was an example. And the guy riding backwards on the horse... etc.

I'm afraid to know why...

Re: Z's Flight to DC

The Hawks want Zydrunas Ilgauskas. A lot still has to fall in place for that to happen. First, Ilgauskas has to be bought out. He’s not playing for the Wizards tonight, a sign that he will get his wish.

Once that happens, Z (don’t make me spell it anymore) somehow has to decide he doesn’t want to return to the Cavaliers, who drafted him 14 years ago and are tops in the Eastern Conference. If Z surprises everyone and passes on the Cavs, he then has to decide he wants to play for the Hawks.

And if that happens, it will mean less playing time for the Hawks’ current Z, Zaza. He said he wants burn like all guys do but he’s a pro and so he’d be cool with the another Z around.

“I know ‘Z’ personally,” Zaza said. “He’s a great guy, a good person. Everyone knows what he can do. He’s been in the league a long time. If the (Hawks) organization thinks that’s the right thing and it will help us, that’s fine with me.”

Zydrunas Ilgauskas arrived in Washington and took his physical to complete the trade. But while his No. 17 jersey was waiting for him just in case, Ilgauskas likely will never wear it. He is hoping to negotiate a buyout. Ilgauskas has drawn interest from Atlanta and Dallas, should he reach an agreement with the Wizards before March 1. But many expect him to return to Cleveland, where he has played his entire 14-year career before getting dealt for Antawn Jamsion on Thursday. But he would have to wait 30 days after getting waived to join the Cavaliers. There is no waiting period if he joins another team.

Would Zydrunas Ilgauskas Look Good in Celtics Green?
by Evan Brunell on Feb 20, 2010 9:55:42 AM
If or when new Wizards big man Zydrunas Ilgauskas gets bought out by Washington, should Boston try to bring him to town?
Ilgauskas, who previously spent his entire 12-year career with the Cavaliers before being traded in the Antawn Jamison blockbuster, is widely expected to be bought out and return to Cleveland.

Currently, NBA rules prevent Ilgauskas from returning to Cleveland for a 30-day period, but many players and teams have taken advantage of this rule -- including Boston. In 2005, the Celtics traded Gary Payton to the Atlanta Hawks for Antoine Walker, and then welcomed Payton back into the fold 30 days later.
Such is the reality of life in the NBA, where expiring contracts are more valuable than the players themselves. (Ilgauskas is making $11.5 million this year and will become a free agent after the season.)

Boston coach Doc Rivers told reporters before Thursday's Lakers-Celtics battle that he's not a fan of the impending Ilgauskas return to Cleveland.
"I loved it three years ago when we did it with Gary Payton if you remember, but now I think it sucks," Rivers said. "I think it's a terrible deal."
Lakers coach Phil Jackson concurred.

"They're going to get Ilgauskas back, and it's going to be one of those scenarios that we see in the NBA where you ship a player out, you get another player, then your player
retires or they pay him off and then he comes back in 30 days," Jackson said. "I don't know what that does for the league. I think that's kind of a weird situation."
Jackson may not know what it does for the league, but it’s clear what it does for the Cavaliers. They get an All-Star in Jamison (along with former Celtic Sebastain Telfair) while giving up, essentially, a first-round pick and the rights to their second-round pick from 2009. OK, so they lose the ability to have Ilgauskas for a month. Big deal -- they'll get him back for when it counts: the playoffs.

There is growing sentiment in the league that the rule, as currently comprised, is unfair. Several teams are preparing to chase Ilgauskas, solely to deny his return to the LeBron James-led Cavaliers. The Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks are early front-runners.

Why not the Celtics? The club has one open spot on its roster after the Nate Robinson deal and may have two if they opt to waive Marcus Landry, who came in the Robinson deal as well. Shelden Williams, who has rarely taken his warmup jacket off lately, also could be jettisoned if necessary.

Ilgauskas would fit in seamlessly as a center behind Kendrick Perkins and relegate the inconsistent Rasheed Wallace to a more complementary role backing up Kevin Garnett.
Averaging 20.5 minutes a game, the Lithuanian is posting 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

The Celtics are looking for ways to improve this team, and one way to do it is to shore up the quality of the bench players. Robinson was one way to do it. Ilgauskas might be another -- and could provide valuable inside intel on the Cavaliers, a team Boston will have to get through if they hope to hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy in June

MrMichaelLee Zydrunas Ilgauskas didn't reach buyout agreement on Fri., but don't expect him in a Wiz No. 17 jersey. He's already back in CLE, chillin'
