2011 NBA Redraft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
i didn't like leonard. well, not at 4 at least. seems the spurs knocked their draft pick out of the park...yet again. i am quite jealous of their front office.

i really like what faried is doing in denver, altho it took them a while to get him on the court for significant minutes. had he played this much and this well from the start he'd be in the running for ROTY

Kawhi Leonard was drafted 15th by the Indiana Pacers, who traded him shortly thereafter to acquire George Hill. Its not like the Spurs just drafted him low, they sent out a nice piece to the Pacers to obtain him. Still a great move for them, just not as insanely great as revisionist history makes it seem.

Players that have close to NBA leg strength frequently make Jonas look like Lance Aldred.

Thank you for bringing this up. The arguments against Jonas have nothing to do with him being a "soft Euro" but with the fact he's still getting muscled around. He's had a year to get bigger and stronger, and they say due to his busy schedule he hasn't had the time. Which doesn't mean he won't but until he does ... it's still a question mark.

Max, if the Cavs are so regretful for taking TT over Jonas then who led the brigade to do so in the first place? Was it Dan Gilbert after seeing Thompson shut down his other man-crush, Derrick Williams? Was it Christ Grant because he was too concerned with Jonas' contract buyout dilemma?

Nothing has changed.
Many in the Cav's organization regretted not taking Jonas right after the draft...they still regret it today. Centers are so much harder to come by than PF's. We would have had our PG and C positions filled for the next 10+ years with Kyrie/Jonas. PF's are just MUCH easier to find. Not trying to knock TT or saying he isn't going to be a great pro. But filling the C position first would have been a much smarter move for our rebuild. With Jonas playing overseas, we'd probably have a few more losses this year too. It would have been better for us in a lot of ways.

This has been my contention from the start. I've never had a huge problem with Thompson but I think PF's at his level are readily available in every draft. C's are much tougher to come by. I fear the Cavs having to search for the next 5-10 years for their long term C.
I don't think either Jonas or Tristan are going to be big time stars. Both should at least be solid players and if that's the case you take the C every time. Cavs had the chance to fill both PG and C for the next decade and passed on it. Still not 100% sure why. If it was due to the buyout and year wait than that was foolish.
Varejao has a long injury history and can't be counted on for big minutes long term. Just look at the Cavs struggles at C since he went down to see how difficult it can be to fill that position.

We still don't know what Jonas is or will become. What we do know is he chose not to arrange for his buyout like his agent said would be taken care of well before the draft.

Tristan likely would have been tearing up the NCAA if he stayed another year. He doesn't look as good right now because he's been thrown in over his head unlike the guys who chose to stay in college or Europe.

And hearing that from Max makes me worried about the Cavs ability to draft players. Drafting Kyrie was a no brainer but already having second thoughts about your #4 pick is not good. I still like Tristan but like already stated finding good Centers is harder than finding good PF's. Chris Grant has to hit on all draft picks in this draft for me to really believe he can build this team the right way and let me know he can evaluate talent as needed.

As far as you're concerned, you might just as well count him in the fail column ... because that's almost impossible.

What we need to do is build up our assets, develop players, and raise the value of the players we've got ... and from there we can start to piece the team we want together.

It's not troubling to me that the Cavs internally had differing opinions on which way to go with the #4 pick ... what's troubling to me is that we were unsuccessful developing, mentoring, and helping Christian Eyenga become an asset.

It's impossible to count on him to draft really good players with our 2 1st round picks? As Portland proved a couple years ago it doesn't matter how many draft picks you have if all those players aren't good. As a GM if he can't draft really good players with our lottery picks in these 1st couple seasons then it's going to make it a lot harder for him to build this team the way it should be built(with youth and potential).

oden, roy, and lamarcus aldridge would be an unbelieveable core, and wouldve won at least one championship imo if they could have stayed healthy.

Dude, the sacred cow OKC didn't hit on all of their picks unless you are going to try to claim Green was a good pick. What happens if Portland picks Durant instead of Oden? Think about that one.

Don't forget that Seattle/OKC drafted the amazing Mouhamed Sene with the 10th pick as well.

Even the best franchises don't get NBA-quality players with every pick. Yet it's safe to say Tristan is - at the very least - a very good third big on a team. His ceiling is much higher than that.

Those were higher picks that they traded their own pick in that draft(Roy and LMA) and they turned into really good players but I remember when they had so many low 1st and 2nd round picks they drafted who ultimately all aren't on their team anymore. I wouldn't expect them to hit on all of them but they could of at least hit on a couple.

Sure at #5 Green wasn't a good pick but they drafted Westbrook and Ibaka along with Durant. Even if you just talk about them drafting Ibaka, without him their team is not a contender today.

All I'm saying is we need to hit on our draft picks. Most importantly the 1st rounders. If we don't we will be stuck as the #8 seed in the playoffs for a while.

Don't forget Cole Aldrich with 11th. They traded up in that draft too. & that was OKC organization as it is.

I'm looking at 2007 draft and after Jeff Green there doesn't seem like anything I'd want over him other than Noah. (considering him as player, not his heart condition which is in no way predictable).
