A closer look at Bradley Beal

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
for me the top priority is getting an SG who can handle the ball and has good dribbling skills, because he can always improve his jumpshot later...but ball handling is more of a natural skill - either you have it or you don't. so i'd rather take a good ball handler with a mediocre jumpshot, because chances are his jumpshot will improve after 1-2 seasons. i'm sick of the Cavs always having one-dimensional wing players who can't dribble. when you have multiple guys on the floor who can drive, your offense is going to be much more dangerous.

8/10

for reference:

Kyrie's Ballhandling - 10/10
Gee's Ballhandling - 4/10
Casspi's Ballhandling - -6/10

How do you rate Beal's handles?

I don't know much about him. I'm leaving it up to the draft junkies around here to fill me in on the abilities of all these college players. I'm just saying, if I was GM, I'd rather take a great ball handler with a mediocre jumpshot over a great shooter with mediocre hall handling. because like i said, good athletes usually improve their jumpshots over time, but ball handling ability is more of a talent that you can't teach.

I cringe whenever Gee handles the ball. Then Beal is the complete package then. Good handles, shooter, defender, rebounder and passer. To bad we have no chance for him now

I agree with this 100%. Good shooters are easy to find. Great ballhandlers are special though. Its something you are born with and cant really develop. Irving is a special ballhandler. This team needs other creaters besides Irving and spot shooters are easy to find.

based on my limited reading, it looks like Beal isn't great at driving and getting to the rim, which concerns me...but if he's the best ball handler available at our draft position, then a guess we settle for him. from reading the limited info on him, it seems his lack of explosiveness off the dribble and lack of height could force him to be mostly a perimeter player - which would be a bad thing...we don't need another one-dimensional shooter at SG - that's all the cavs have had for a long time. I want to finally get a versatile, slashing SG on the Cavs roster.

If Florida keeps winning, we will have to "win" a better spot in the upcomming lottery. I used to like Lamb over Beal, but this exposure has had me thinking otherwise.

Austin Rivers is the best ball handler out of the wings would you take a chance on him?

I would only if he is a legit 6'4

I like Lamb also. He probably has potential to be a better scorer than Beal in the NBA. Its just he lacks leadership and certain intangibles that I dont like about him

great ball handlers are natural athletes and can usually develop their shot and become great spot shooters as well. if you take a great ball handler and he can develop his jump shot, then you have a guy who is a great ball handler and a great shooter.

another thing is that great ball handlers can usually develop their shot and become great spot shooters as well. if you take a great ball handler and he can develop his jump shot, then you have a great ball handler and a great shooter.

Basically Wade vs Reggie Miller

Beal's playing too good right now. I hope Florida goes down frankly as his stock has to have gone up starting with the SEC tournament and now the NCAA's. We're looking to have likely 7-8th pick so it's not a certainty at right now that he'd be available*

*Nice thing about stockpiling picks though: we may be able to move up a spot or two with an extra 1st rounder thrown in

if Rivers truly is the best ball handler and slasher available, then yeah I would take him - I would always pick the best ball handler first and worry about shooting later. Rivers' height still worries me, but it looks like all of the SG's available are undersized (6'3" - 6'4"). It doesn't look like there are any 6'6" - 6'7" SG's available for us this year.
