A closer look at Bradley Beal

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
thanks for clearing that up...i thought Wade has always had a good jump shot. these guys were making think i was crazy.

How does Beal compare to a guy like Austin Rivers? Rivers seems pretty well-rounded - a great ball handler and a very good shooter as well.

Rivers is more of a combo guard. Decent shooter, but not as pure of a shooter as Beal (although the numbers are simular this season). He isnt nearly as good of an athlete as Beal and is much skinnier. Rivers most likely wont go lottery, will end somewhere in the mid first. I am not sold on Rivers personally.

By what measure is Wade a great mid-range shooter? He's average at best. He hovers below 40% outside of 10 feet, inside the three point line. Dirk, Kobe, and Ray Allen are great mid-range shooters. Wade is not in their league.

(and it's Wroten, not Wooten)

Wade has the ability to create his own shot from mid range. That alone is a huge plus. Not many players can stop on a dime and hit a mid range shot with a hand in ther face. Dirk never could create his own mid range shot, he is a set shooter, but then again, he is a 7-footer, and Ray Allen hasnt been able to create his own shot since the Carter admin. Kobe, well thats another story, yes, this just in, Kobe is really good.

Alright: For all the people who've seen them play, I need some insight:

Beal is the most complete player
Wroten is the one with the best handles
Rivers is the one who is a combo guard and slashes

What would Lamb be then? Ross? Where do these five rank? Attitudes? Anything that stands out in strengths and weaknesses?

I want real analysis. I've had enough people who haven't seen these guys play, let alone gossip about them. And any others that look good? Besides MKG of course. And what about Barnes?

The only thing Wade is elite at is bulldozing into the lane and getting bailed out by the refs.

Yeah, you're right... I mean, who in their right mind would want Wade on their team since, you know, he has no elite skills.

Obviously, but that still doesn't make him a great mid range shooter. Being able to create your own shot and being a great mid-range shooter are two different things. Wade's ability to get that shot whenever he wants helps negate the fact that he doesn't hit them at an exceptional clip. You can't shoot sub 40% for your career in the mid-range and be considered a great mid-range shooter. That's just my opinion. I can't remember ever hearing Wade referred to as a great mid-range shooter. There are maybe 10 great mid-range shooters in the league, and I don't consider him one of them.

You're really talking different categories.

Wade has closed out numerous games with his ability to get in the lane and then if cut off ... making a mid-range shot.

There are certainly guys who shoot for a higher %, but unless they can create their shot with the game on the line and the defense keyed up to stop them it's not directly comparable because they're playing different offensive roles.

Fair enough, maybe the word i should have used was good. i consider the true mid range game as one where you create your own shot off the dirbble. Dirk, who is a fantastic set shooter to me is more of a pick and pop player. Ofcourse he might be the best pick and pop player of all time, but still not really a mid range guy.

We might just be arguing semantics here though. And i do agree with the other poster that says Wade gets bailed out too much. Annoys me to no end.

Are you excluding Dirk's fade away/step-back jumpers that start off in the mid-post as a mid-range shot? ;)

Draftexpress now has Beal #5 ahead of Sullinger and Barnes. His tournament performance is definitely making it harder for him to fall into our laps

Had a talk with Beal tonight. We were skyping. Told him to suck at his workouts. He's gotta slip to the Cavs. He said he understood and would make it happen. Good kid. Funny, I asked him what he wanted for dinner, he said spaghetti-os.

Wade is a very strong, very fast guard with excellent body control and a high BBIQ and point guard like skills. Yes he gets a lot of calls, but he is fearless driving the paint, and understands how to get defenders out of balance. It is interesting that if you look at the individual stats, you might not be impressed. But when you look at his impact on the game it is obvious.

I don't see comparing beal and wade at all. I think he is not as big and not as fast, but is a better shooter. I have him as more of an Eric Gordon type. In fact I don't see a clear wade similarity in the draft until you get to tony Wroten.. Who is taller but has a similar game... That said, I would have to be sold on the idea that a wade type and Kyrie would get along in the back court. I am thinking more Reggie miller. Kyrie can get to the rim on any seam. So my thought is at you want a player that works well off the ball, defends well and spreads the floor.

I agree 100%. While Beal's a good player, I don't see him as an ideal pairing with Kyrie.

Yep. When I took BB (what his family calls him) and his mom out to dinner, I took them to Sonic. He ordered chicken nuggets and a cherry Lime-Ade. His mom kept complaining about his diet and hiw he refuses to eat healthy, adult food.

Classic.
