Anderson Varejao

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We can rightfully question Varejao's ability to remain healthy, but you cannot argue that he is also the most talented center James has played with in quite some time. If he can play in 80% of the games, I think it is actually being understated how important he will be to our success.

Cleveland Cavaliers: Anderson Varejao expected to win starting job at center
Now, less than a week away from the 2014-15 season opener, the 6-foot-11, 267-pounder is expected to open as the Cavaliers’ starting center. Coach David Blatt has yet to officially name his starter, but indications are that it will be Varejao.
Well...shit... But it's not like we didn't know it was coming.

#Cavs coach David Blatt says Anderson Varejao will start at center on opening night. Tristan Thompson will come off the bench.

Confirmation from Blatt. Think the bass keeps moving better with Andy in and his passing is just a few levels above what Tristan can do now, so I get having him start the game. Think the minutes will unfold like they did in preseason, with Andy macing out at about 22-24 minutes per night.

I'm fine with Varejao starting opening night, but I hope by halfway through the season Tristan is starting. Varejao is definitely the more valuable player of the two, so we should do everything we can to keep him fresh for the playoffs.

I've always like Andy off the bench bringing that spark and running our defense and anchoring the second unit

I guess I understand the move, but I'd rather see TT starting for injury concerns alone

As long as their splitting minutes pretty evenly, anyone can start, they both have their advantages and a of now varejao should probably get more reps with the lineup that will start and finish games

Andy is what I would call a "floating" center.
Dion,Irving , delly all know he can do something positive with the ball anywhere on the court and are are all willing passers and I think his presence with the starting lineup will be key into the guards getting more comfortable passing the ball to love

Also Andy is solid at executing a play. he will all ways be in the right spot at the right time. this makes it easier for the coaches and players to identify when something is out of keel and get it corrected.

Andy typically offsets any center mismatch either on the offensive or defensive end.

And y is also one of the premier big men at blocking out opponents and minimizing opposing players times spent in their comfort zone.

AV is also the only link between the new guys and lebron.

I think Thompson still struggles with experienced physical frontcourts. If and once Thompson learns how to adapt to those matchups AV could serve a bench role but i think Thompson will benefit from having an expanded role on the second unit .

Here's a question:

This obviously matters a lot less than Andy's hustle and 'off the box sheet' team play, but what sort of numbers do we think we'll see from the big fella this season?

I get the feeling he's going to have a number of outlier games where he finds himself open in the paint for easy baskets, given the attention to outside shooters, the level of spacing and the fact that he'll be given the least defensive attention of the starting 5.

What's so remarkable about Andy is that if you do give him room to make plays, he'll consistently punish you. Whether it's on the inside or his little 15 foot pop shot, he'll put the ball in the basket.

Yet another reason why we'll be so lethal on offense this season.

I think he'll have an average of ~8 points and ~8 rebounds.

I really like Andy starting. He's been labeled a sparkplug but he's gotten too solid all around to start a guy like TT over him.

Just because he starts doesn't mean TT wont play more minutes though so everyone chill.

I don't know man. The way Chicago guarded him is the way I imagine most teams will guard him......not at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if hes closer to his 14 and 14 year, than 8 and 8. And thatll be with not one play ran for him

I bet his stat lines are all over the place. You will see crazy rebounding and scoring games from him depending on the matchup. I can't wait. I just love watching him play basketball. Can't believe I use to cringe when he touched the ball.
