Anderson Varejao

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With salaries for big men escalating and an injection of cash coming with the new television deal, it seems unlikely Varejao would accept a dramatic salary reduction. Varejao is represented by Dan Fegan and Thompson is represented by Rich Paul. It’s fair to assume both parties are closely watching negotiations with the other side, one league source acknowledged, meaning it’s likely both guys will ultimately make about the same amount if they sign extensions.

Wait......what?

I love Andy but holy fuck is that an overpay for a guy who can't stay healthy and will be 36 or so at the end of the deal.

10M per seems a lot for Varejao now a days but if Dan is willing to pay whatever it takes to win you won't hear me bitching.

10 million a year is fine. I think you guys are underestimating just how much Andy gives this team when in-shape and healthy. Definitely more valuable than what Tristan gives us, and he's in line to make even more.

The only thing is if we're gonna be paying him $10/year, I'd only go 2 years instead of 3. That third year could potentially kill us. I hope it's not fully guaranteed.

An overpay, but no way do you let Varejao go. He's a Cav for life and we're rewarding him for never once demanding a trade during the last four shitty years.

Said it perfectly Jack. It's an overpay perhaps in the context of basketball output and production given his injury history but that salary is paying him for more than just his time spent on the floor.

I assume that the Thompson and Varejao extensions pretty much mean we arent going to be using the Haywood contract to get a center? That'd be a crazy 110 million dollar team which I doubt Gilbert has the money for since the cap penalty on that would be another 80 million.

I have no idea where you're getting your numbers from but that's not accurate at all.

It's really up to Dan.

Nothing in the current CBA that runs for 3 more years can stop him from extending Andy, TT, Dion, using the Haywood contract, using the Bogans TPE, and using the taxpayer MLE each year.

Along w of course re-signing LeBron and Love in 2016

Maybe andy's contract is 10 mill including incentives like games played? If he plays 75 games then hes worth 10 a year

These extensions are very important. They continue to send the message of "whatever it takes." That Gilbert and company are going to continue to support what we have here. Spend whatever is necessary to bring that championship. Not cut corners. Not repeat the OKC and Miami mistakes. That message is very important because it is also being sent to Lebron and Love.
