Beer snob thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone here homebrew? I'm looking to get started and could use some advice as to which starter kit to buy. Any suggestions?

I recently started. I'm on my third batch currently, probably will brew my 4th this weekend or next. I bought a groupon for a Norther Brewer starter kit that was on sale, which basically got me all the essentials. Midwest brewing supplies is also a good website. Or you can find a homebrew shop near you. They all will basically come with the same stuff.

Or are you talking about beer recipe kits?

Trying Chillwave for the first time. I'm digging it, definitely one of the better Great Lakes beer.

Not surprised. Great Lakes has some tasty ones, and some bland ones.

I enjoy some types of beer, while others aren't as enjoyable. I especially like beer with carbonation, hops, malt, and an ABV between 3.8% and 15%. A big plus for me is if the beer comes in a can, bottle, or from the tap.

You need to broaden your horizons, man. :chuckles:

Old friend from Cleveland staying here for the night. I'm introducing him to these two and reminiscing about growing up on the mean streets of Westlake.

I had this guy tonight:

Really good if you're into wild ales, which I am.

Had a Chillwave too. Hate the new name. Liked Alchemy Hour so much better. Shame they had to rename it. Either way, great double IPA. It's weird how great all of Great Lakes' seasonals are and how mediocre almost all of their yearly releases are. The only yearly I really like is Burning River, and the distributors don't even carry it in Charlotte (of course they carry literally every other Great Lakes yearly brew and all the seasonals too...just not Burning River).

Alchemy Hour/Chillwave is spectacular. Do you really think the yearly GLBC brews are all mediocre though?!? Commodore Perry is easily an above average IPA to me, Burning River is an "old faithful" of mine, and Edmund Fitzgerald is world-class for an everyday porter.

Since you're in the microbrew capital of the Southeast, I've got a challenge for you... See if you can find Skull Coast's Gallow's Point Porter (I think it came out of SC). I'm not even sure if it is still in production, as it was in and out of the taps at my local hangouts in Raleigh 1-2 years ago, but it was easily the most orgasmic Porter I've ever come across (that wasn't from a cask). Also, please go drink a Duck Rabbit Brown Ale for me ASAP ...god I miss that stuff.

EDIT: Oh Yes... They still make it. If you appreciate Porters, you've gotta try this stuff:

Burning River is one of my favorite beers, which makes it all the more frustrating that it's not carried anywhere around here. I'm not a huge Commodore Perry fan, though. I can't really say why as I haven't had it in forever, but I have tried it many times in the past (being from Ohio) and just never cared for it. I feel similarly about the rest of their yearly releases. Just nothing that I really want to drink.

Basically all their seasonals are awesome, though, aside from Conways, but I'm not much for red ales to begin with, so that one's probably on me.

I'll keep an eye our for it, as I do love a good porter, especially in the winter.

On an unrelated note, I found a beer named after my dog!

I need to find some BLATZ beer for my dad as a gag gift. He used to drink that old panther piss years ago, and I want to buy him some/make fun of him.

I check a couple online site and it's only available for pickup in states I do not live. Anyone have a clue?

The only thing I remember about Blatz is that one time during a tailgate before a Bowling Green football keg we had a rubber keg of it. The beer was awful, but we beat Temple that game by like seventy points and we were all drunk as hell so it's one of my fondest college memories. One of my roommates bought our entire group $120 worth of concession food with his meal plan too! Great day. :chuckles:

My dad drank it in the 80's/early 90's, back in the "Go get your dad a beer" days. My brother found an old neon sign of it and he flipped out. Gotta outdo him.

I didn't think so but there were a couple places online selling it, but it was for pickup only. Maybe it's really just old, undrinkable cans of it, but even that would work.
