Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Teams would absolutely be able to offer more talent. Pretty much every team in the NBA actually lol. It doesn't mean they would do it though. It may make sense for certain teams to out offer for Batum (if he becomes available), but I imagine the amount of teams looking for a role player paid like an all star is pretty minimal.

The other side is, without Aldridge, Portland doesn't have much hopes of contending, so going through a rebuildijg phase, we all know from the last 4 years, the trades you are interested in change drastically.

You stop looking for talented players, and actively try to make a weaker roster, to get a better pick, and keep cap flexibility. Does adding talented players help much in that particular scenario? Draft picks, and cap space is what matters to rebuilding teams.

Edit: As for Batum's fit here, he isn't a worse shooter than Shumpert, he's taller, and as good of a defender, if not better. He won't win any three point contests, but he can and does hit shots, and he would get very wide open looks here. We also know the Cavs are the reason he has his current contract (and thank god Portland matched, or was that a rumour?), and the Cavs have a history of aqcuiring players they have had previous interest in (Shump, Moz for example).

It was Minnesota who offered that deal I thought: there's some bad blood leftover from those franchises because of this still.
Anyway if Gilbert would swallow that contract and Portland would deal this would be a scary team with Batum.

Batum would be an interesting pick-up as a back-up for Bron, but i wonder if his 3-point shot is solid enough to put him in at shooting guard as some seem to have suggested. I've also gotten the impression that Portland fans aren't as high on Batum as we are, so maybe we should investigate a little further in the matter to make sure that it isn't just fool's gold.

A career .363 % Three-Point Shooter with 5 Three-Point Attempts Per Game is quite good. Though he has stretches where he goes cold for some games. But, that is ok because he would still impact the game. Not to mention, would get more room with playing alongside someone like LeBron. Think Batum has the potential to be Shane Battier kind of player.

I still believe we wind up with more than is being expected from the Haywood deal. As I mentioned, the Pelicans might look to dump Gordon in order to make a run at Jordan or Gasol.

Being able to immediately dump $10 mill from the cap is obviously valuable for any team hoping to add a big time free agent this summer.

I'm sure New Orleans would love to dump Gordon on somebody, but he would be a last resort for me because of declining health and play.

Dream scenario in terms of the Haywood contract would involve

Cavs in: Wilson chandler, Darren collison

Denver in: Haywood, 24, kings pick,

Kings in: Lawson

I wrote this up quickly considering I'm on my phone and on the Jon at work but it may work out for all teams. Cavs get depth, Kings get a top 15 pg to put next to boogie, and Denver blows it up and acquires money and draft picks.

I really wonder if Pat Riley would at all let us get Dwyane Wade with the Haywood contract?

Miami gets: Brendan Haywood, Joe Harris, Mike Miller, 1st round draft pick

Cleveland gets: Dwyane Wade (opts in to 16 mil dollar contract for next season)

You don't have to throw in Harris to make the numbers work. Haywood and Miller are enough. Maybe Miami would want Harris, but he doesn't have to be included.

At this point, Miller does not make any deal more enticing.

Correct. But the enticing part for Miami in that situation is the picks and the possibility to use Haywood's deal for someone else. Miller would purely be included to make the salaries match.

Wade should retire in Miami.

He would obviously help our team and is still a damn good player when healthy, but -- for me anyways -- there would come a point where acquiring too many parts from LeBron's previous team (who we all despised) would feel a little uncomfortable. I think Wade would get us to that point. I know some people are in favor of the "championship at all costs" mantra, but it would feel really strange watching LeBron and Wade in Cavaliers uniforms. That isn't taking into account the other former Heatles that may be on the roster next year (Jones, Miller).

Yeah, I think I'm good on the former Miami players for now.

You didn't want LeBron back here either if I recall correctly.

Never been a Wade "fan" but I can't deny he's a really good player and still is. I'd take him. EDIT: Keep in mind this will never actually occur.

Wade kills flexibility for not much benefit. 33, busted up knees, big salary, needs controlled minutes, will need to give assets for him. Not what we need, extremely against it.
