Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd a thought this thread would've been on fire today. 10 million UNGUARUNTEED. Meaning this is a quick way for ANY team to send out 10 millions dollars for FREE.

The way I see it this deal has 2 outcomes today. We trade it for a player and a pick. The player probably has a long contract that is clear they won't live up to. The player either ends up benefitting from playing with Lebron and we enjoy him for the length of the contract or 2 ends up sucking and becomes and at the very least is a good sized expiring contract which still has value at a later date.

Or 2 we use it to help facilitate say a Cousins or Aldridge deal. I'm sure there are 1000 combinations in which any team hunting one of these stars could benefit from 10 million free dollars. Maybe we help that Cousins deal and LA. Say hello Lakers we see you guys want Cousins. Well what if you didn't have to give up Randle or Clarkson to do it and at the same time you could unload Hill? We can do that for you!!!! Just give us your pick with no protection for next year .(because the #2 pick this year undoubtedly would go to Sac if they are trading Cousins). Or how about the Blazers? How about we send over Harris and a 1st to boost their rebuild but trade them Haywood so they have the ability to make a swing at another high salary player? Only catch is we want Wes Matthews.

One of the reasons it isn't as hot of a topic is because while terms of a potential deal could be released, Haywoods deal does't convert to the 10.5 million amount until either July 1 or July 9. Then from that point they have till August 2 for it to remain non guaranteed.

Lakers can't trade their pick two years in a row... But I see what you are saying.

Would be nice and all, but a couple problems with that.

1.) Matthews is an UFA.
2.) We can't do a sign and trade to pick up a player
3.) He wants 15 millon per year.

There are a lot of teams who want a shot at these max deal free agents. Cavaliers have a great chance tonight to get a great influx of veteran talent for that contract, the question will be who they want to help out.

Do the Cavaliers want David Lee and the #30 pick for that contract? I doubt it, because they don't need to do the Warriors any favors.

Houston, San Antonio, Toronto, Brooklyn, Dallas, and others all would be looking to clear space on the cap as well. Who is offering the best deal? Who do the Cavaliers want to avoid in the playoffs after they facilitate a free agent signing?

It's complex, but I personally believe we get our answer by tomorrow morning.

I'd say that the Celtics picking another guard -- and a bit of a reach at that -- after paying $8M/yr to Bradley, picking Smart & trading for Thomas that it is a pretty good indication that Bradley is probably gone (saving maybe $5M) and the rumored link with Hayward may have happened. Unfortunately it might take some time for this to be announced

I agree with you here but would the Cavs be willing to help a team that they know will strongly pursue Kevin Love?

Kinda of have to if you want a solid back up SF with out killing Gilberts pockets.

Here's post-draft take on guys who could be likely gets with the Haywood contract.

Bucks:
OJ Mayo
Jerryd Bayless
Zaza

Celtics:
Avery Bradley
Evan Turner

Spurs:
Tiago Splitter
Patty Mills

Denver:
Wilson Chandler

Charlotte:
Marvin Williams

That's the level of player I think we can add and considering we're looking for depth and guys that play in the 8th-10th slot of our rotation, I think most of those guys would be good adds.

I know there have been bigger names talked about(Wade, Gay, Hibbert, Gallo, etc.) but I personally don't see those as happening.

Also, I realize that we could simply trade him to a cap team to create a trade exception to use in season, but based on how we worked the draft tonight, I think we'll be adding in actual talent/players with Haywood.

Wonder if a team we were in trade talks with wanted Osman? Maybe not.

Celtics drafted Rozier. They have to pay Crowder to keep him and drafted RJ Hunter.

Trade Bradley and Turner for Haywood and Harris/Miller (and Osman or Kaun?).

Not thrilled about Turner but he's young and on a good contract. Or we could flip him to a 3rd team like the Nuggets and get Wilson Chandler.

Pretty much my dream trade right now. Which is basically the same as the dream trade I said like 2 weeks ago.
