Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I saw someone listed Danilo gallinari. How he's been doing after he came back from those injuries? Never really saw much of Denver last season but i kinda like him ever he came into the league.

I remember reading not long ago that Gallinari is one of a few players Denver felt were in their long term plans. I think Wilson Chandler is probably the more interesting trade prospect when it comes to the Nuggets. Could fill that combo forward role off the bench and they have been rumored to be looking to move him for awhile now.

If you go by that logic then what is the point of OKC even fielding a team next year? What is the point of Chicago keeping Derrick Rose?

Injuries happen. They screwed us big time this year. But injuries happen every year to different teams. There are several other fanbases in addition to us(OKC and Chicago chief among them) that legit believe had the had the health GS had, they could have made or won the Finals.

So all you can do is add as much talent and depth to the team as possible and hope that you have your health during the playoff runs.

Yes Yes injuries happen but Cavs already got like 2-3 injury prone players in the roster atm, but you're just pointing out just 1 player.

I mean why add another one with Wesley Matthews, that a crazy gamble.

Your last sentence pretty much summed up GSW championship, they were completely healthy even though they got like a minimum 3 injury prone players, while the rest of the league was crippled with injuries. But I say they just lucked out this season and wont be reaching WCF anytime soon after this.

Gallo actually did really well at the end of the year. Apparently Brian Shaw was really a terrible coach, and judging by how Mozgov turned around when he came here, I'd tend to agree.

Shame that we probably can't pluck Gallinari away from them. It looks like we have a short list of players that we can get through Haywood's contract.

Yes, that's correct. We cannot use Haywood in sign-and-trades without going below the apron - which is highly unlikely. This means we can't go after any UFA's with his contract, players who will likely opt out of their contracts, or restricted free agents.

In general, we can only trade Haywood for a player under contract in a standard trade, no sign-and-trades, extend-and-trades, etc.

How many here like José Calderón?

I have always liked him since his Toronto days. Would be a very good back-up point guard/ball-handler. Is a very good shooter and has got good court vision and passing skills. Love Delly, but he is more of a 3 & D guy than a ball-handler.

Funny to think how badly a lot of people wanted Shaw to come here and be the head coach, that he was supposed to be the next great head coach in the league.

With the way he completely lost that team in Denver, I'm going to be mildly surprised if he gets another head coaching gig.

He has a terrible contract. I know, because I was just on 2k last night trying to rebuild the Knicks and he was the first person I traded away to clear cap space :chuckle: If the Knicks give us a high draft pick, I'd do it for them ;)

Ok, after looking at Splitter's advanced metrics and watching some of his (healthy) highlights, I'm all in on him.

If SAS would just give us Splitter, in exchange for helping them grease the wheels on a LMA trade, I would be do it in a second.

It's an embarrassment of riches at the big man position but it would also give us some flexibility in negotiations with Timo and TT.

Other than him, I don't see a ton of other guys out there who interest me. Maybe something off the radar pops up but it seems like there aren't a ton of non URFA/RFA guys who would fit in to what we are doing.

Splitter is a defensive monster. He really is. Center and power forward, he can guard both I'm pretty sure.

The issue with him is his health. He had lingering calf issues for much of last season. I think the Spurs may be souring on him because of those health issues.

If he's healthy, I would love to have him in our big man rotation. He might not block a ton of shots, but he is a terrific defender.

Splitter is not only a good defender but also is a good passer. Ideally, I would be all in for him but I don't want us to help San Antonio Spurs to get them LaMarcus Aldridge. We would most likely end up facing them in the NBA Finals and starting five of Duncan - LaMarcus - Kwahi - Green - Parker is pretty scary.

Two things here that could play to Splitter's advantage. 1) having Love at PF. I don't think Splitter shared the floor much w/Diaw, which meant that the paint was clogged. Duncan is good but doesn't have Love's range.

2) minutes. we can keep him healthy by just giving him 20 MPG

to get a player for free in a salary dump you either have to take people who arent very good or you take a chance

i know cavs are looking like an injury prone team but id grab Gallo if we could. he had a big salary for a rebuilding team. he's good but not super consistent. he's friends w mozz

I posted this in another thread. Splitter could be very good for us.

Splitter is a great defender and one of the best defenders on a team that's been great defensively for 15 straight years which is saying something. I'm not sure if anyone expects Andy to be healthy enough to contribute in May and June, so that really leaves us with one really good defensive big in Mozgov. If he gets injured, we have to hope that TT gets better defensively. TT showed some signs this post season, but still isn't a very good help defender, and isn't really a rim protector. Splitter allows 50% at the rim, TT 52.2%, and Love 52.6%. Last year, Splitter allowed 44.6% at the rim, one of the best %s in the league.

San Antonio's DRtg with Splitter on court: 100.4
San Antonio's DRtg with Splitter off court: 102.9

In this year's playoffs against a juggernaut offense in the LAC,

SAS's DRtg with him on court: 99.6
SAS's DRtg with him off court: 112.0

He was effective against a red-hot Griffin in the post and helped slow him down after Griffin completely annihilated Diaw down there.

Last year in the regular season, he made even more of a defensive impact on a great Spurs team:

San Antonio's DRtg with Splitter on court: 96.8
San Antonio's DRtg with Splitter off court: 105.1

In the playoffs this year, he fell off the cliff as a FT shooter even though he had been a reliable 70%--75% for two years in the regular season now and the Clips capitalized by hacking him and taking him off the court.

Last year, he had a stout 4.53 DRPM, and this year was a very good 2.70.

He's not the greatest rebounder in the world, but can be very, very effective as a defender in the right situations.

A bigs rotation of Moz, KLove, TT, Splitter, and Andy would be insanely good, but as other posters have pointed out, that’s a lot of $$$$$ tied up in bigs when we just lost a series to a team playing a 6’7” center
