Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

Who do I want? Chud .

Who do I think? Dungy or Gruden. Gruden has only worked with experienced, older QB's (and teams, for that matter) - so that scares me. Plus he's a retread who's been out of the league for quite a while now. Same goes for Dungy

Tony Dungy coming out of retirement to coach the Cleveland Browns.....

I can't believe one of you clowns hasn't mentioned this guy...

LOL!

That legitimately made me laugh.

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

I would probably lean towards Chud, Jay Gruden, and Mike Zimmer based solely on name recognition, recent success, and perceived skill. I don't know anything about any of their personalities though. Chud and Jay Gruden seem to be ahead of the NFL curve on offense and I remember hearing that the players really love Mike Zimmer.

It would definitely be tough to turn down a big name guy like Jon Gruden if he were available, but other than his personality, there were always issues on offense with his team. His defenses were great, but he's not a defensive coach, that was all Monte Kiffin. Never found a QB. He'll also always have that stigma that he won on a Tony Dungy built team and as time went by the talent got worse, unless he proves otherwise. Not too many coaches that's personality fits so well with Cleveland though.

Cowher is too long out of the game in my opinion. Don't want anything to do with Rob Ryan, too volatile.

Press conferences:

Mike Zimmer and Jon Gruden

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

I'd just like to point out that DougHeil once proclaimed that Holmgren would and should end up coaching the Browns. Just something to think about...

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

The thing is, I struggle seeing a big name like Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden coming here because of the perceived power struggle that would likely take place... With Haslem bringing in Joe Banner, Banner is going to wield a considerable amount of power... And while it won't likely be a lot in the way of personnel, I don't see Gruden or Cowher being comfortable answering to someone like Banner... I also don't like the fact Gruden would come in with a handpicked GM... I'm not a fan out those situations, with head coaches essentially having more control than the GM and the GM being his puppet, kinda like Mangini and Kokinis...

Listen I like Gruden a lot and him coming back home to Ohio would be great, but I'm kinda iffy right now...

Something else to keep in mind is don't focus on who the "hot" coordinator is or strictly focus on how successful their offense/defense is... Yeah there's a certain baseline for that but a great coordinator doesn't always make a great head coach... They're two different things... Being a coordinator is all about X's and O's and scheming, while being a head coach is a lot about managing... It takes different qualities to be a head coach... It's why guys are successful coordinators, flame ou as head coaches and go back to being good coordinators... Some guys just can't do it...

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

Rob Ryan would make me laugh as a head coach. Love that guy on the sidelines. His defense is underrated too, when he has the right personnel I've never seen a defense confuse a QB as much as his. Plus he has experience in both the 3-4 and 4-3, though honestly he has more success in the 3-4 so it would likely mean yet another schematic change.

If by some weird happenstance we did get Ryan, we'd absolutely have to find an elite corner to pair with Haden.

I just hope we can find someone is leader of men, and someone who these guys respect and play hard for every game -- your Harbaughs, Belichicks, Tomlins, Coughlins, etc.

I've always felt this started with Lerner, but one thing this organization has sorely lacked at the coaching position is true leaders. From what I've seen of Haslam, he is that guys but he needs to get a coach in there to do the same.

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

I don't remember the media loving Romeo or Mangini.

The fact that the media is even in this discussion reflects extremely poorly on Lerner. As much as I dislike the media most of the time, the Browns' FO has amplified their voice with the string of crap moves and the tendency to listen to the noise.

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

With Haslem's ties I would put the following people in play for HC

Jon Gruden
Tony Dungey
Bruce Arians
Keith Butler
Jack Del Rio
Pete Carmichael Jr
Dave Wantstant

Except for Gruden.....how do these people have ties to Haslam

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

All I saw was Dungy, Gruden....mediocre, garbage, mediocre, garbage, dumpster fire.

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

I don't think Shurmur is a bad guy or even a terrible coach. He just doesn't have the leadership qualities that a coach needs to have. He might have great X's and O's understanding, but he just seems to suck the life out of a room. Tomlin, Harbaugh, Schwartz, Coughlin etc they all have energy and are inspiring. Shurmur has the same look the whole game.

Eric Taylor.

This is depressing as fuck. We're seriously talking about the 2013 opener?!? We are so shitty that this new NFL season is already moot in September with 15 games to go. We're talking about another regime change after the current regime did jack shit and wasted our time. Idk about you guys but fuck the Browns. Until they show me something, you won't catch me tailgating or buying jerseys. I just don't get why we're "a Browns Town" when the Browns are always the joke of the NFL. Why bother? It's frustrating as fuck, until we have some leaders in place were going to continue to blow cock. You won't catch me waiting for next year, fuck that.

We need someone to get up in that ass. We need a tough personality that football players can relate to like Mike Tomlin. Pat Shurmur could easily work at petting farm and I would not think twice about it, his image is softer than Cottonelle.

We are too loyal to a terrible franchise and until they can put something on the field that deserves our diehard loyalty then fuck them. This is going to turn into the Cavs town because their our only entertaining team with somewhat of a bright future. Browns future: cloudy. Tribe future: hopeless. GO CAVS
