and this is reflected in the articles written post game.

Maybe not the best but if you could, possibly ask Blatt about his relationship with his coaching staff. We always ask or are curious about the dynamic between coach and players. What has Blatt learned from his staff and how have they worked together, specifically in these playoffs, to create a game plan and work on adjustments as the flow of the game dictates

when I get a sitdown with him after the season I will get back with you about this... unfortunately he passed on answering it as I said, but who know maybe we'll get some loose time at a shoot around where nobody has questions accept about Kyrie's knee

It really is iteresting to know the dynamic between Blatt and Lue as far as who's in-charge of the defense - is it a partnership or one of them is just calling the shots?
From the video of him mic'd last night - it seems like Lue is, as when he finished talking it seems as if he said "Ok Defense", allowing someone else to talk.
I too remember talks about taking over the reigns of the defense midway though after Lue had full control early on.

"For those of us who followed you in Europe, defensively you were always stressing no easy shots at the rim - even at the expense of allowing the 3pt shot - and your opponents usually shot a very high volume and also a solid % from the 3pt line - but were struggling inside the paint - and the good results followed.
In the NBA it seems as if that took a 180 as you've made major adjustments, and your defense is first and foremost not allowing teams to beat you from the 3pt line holding opponents to one of the lowest %s in the league, while conceding a bit more in the paint .

Could you expand a bit about:
1) If your personal opinion regarding defensive ideolegy changed? is it just an adjustment you had to make due to the nature of the NBA game, or it has to do more with player personal?
2) Why are there such opposing differences between how to approach and what to allow opponents defensively in the European and the NBA game.

I am saving this for the pre-game presser for game 1 perfect time for it, and will let Blatt say again, I'm not a rookie coach. Tho' might not be a problem this series...

(speaking of the last two, the Lue question will have to wait until I get the sitdown I allude to above)

Adam two great questions. Next thing I ask Blatt will be about pace. I was on the WorthyoftheJersey Podcast with Tim Smith and Eric Flannery two really knowledgeable guys and he spoke a little bit how mismatches will take a team out of what it is doing and can upset the rhythm Klay and Curry mught've gotten going. May try to follow up on that with Blatt but not sure how thorough he'd be in speaking about it if you know what I mean

Thanks chris. I'm going to look up that podcast now. I understand why blatt doesn't tell all to the media but it must get frustrating when you spend ages crafting the question and he gives you an answer you could of pieced together from previous sound bites

I've listened to some cool questions directed at JR, Shump and LBJ. I don't know who's asked "will you be going under screens at all?", but the players gave out answers slightly more detailed than Blatt.
From what I figure, not many surprises await us - tempt Curry to drive, hound him, deny the 3pt and passing lanes.
Blatt gives out nothing. :(

Well part of what I'm doing with the Scene is filling a needed niche with hopefully a tad of flair.

I've written news and doing that is a bit boring but I think the British actually write with a bit of flair to begin with so I'm hoping that won't be a big deal. Objectivity isn't so hard, I'm describing not rooting. Chris Fedor aside, I recognize the difference. (And again, I defy anyone to remain seated while a fellow bury's a halfcourt falling away out of bounds jumper with a hand in face at the buzzer and not be moved. had Curry hit it I would've probably stood as well, to let my jaw hit the floor.)
A big difference between The Guardian and a lot of other online newspapers is that The Guardian maintains a lively comment section for all of their articles, with a lot of posters from all over the world and a heavy US presence. A little "extra flair" could really stir up the masses in the comments section under your articles, feeding in more readers. Hopefully RCFers can chip in and help stir the debates that are bound to ensue.

I think it's much tougher to ask decent questions this long into a break. When you're asking about a game or series that has yet to be played, you're very quickly going to run out of good questions that don't get into areas of strategy/tactics that a good Coach just won't discuss in any detail.

Just finished up a nearly 4000 word preview I watched both games and break down about a dozen plays and offer 6 major and minor themes for the game. So look for that soon. I'll also post my podcast for Worthy of the Jersey when that's live. Not a lot of dipsy doo just a lot of hard Finals analysis with a dose of opinion.

KILLER column Chris. Feels like you attacked this series from every angle.

I’ve been a big fan of Grantland’s sports coverage the last few years, and what I love about your writing is you combine writing about the overarching narratives of a matchup and off-the-cuff pop culture references of Simmons, and the detailed “hey, this will probably be important later” statistical analysis of Lowe.

With a column as long as this one it’s easy to just start unfocused rambling, but you do a good job avoiding that by briskly moving from point to point. Keep on keeping on.

Bloody brilliant, Chris.

Who knew that basketball is a team game? Not a morality play, not a heroic tale featuring a clash of stereotypes, not a noisy click-clash fueled by UA and Nike's PR budgets.

I mean, who knew!

Fantastic piece!

By the way Chris...

Yasmine Bleeth, titty bar, indecent exposure... then the analogies faded away faster than a forgotten Baywatch babe's face.

It's a hard pace to maintain. I have to be sharp for the references and it becomes more marathon than sprint around the 1500 word mark...

Smaller pieces it's a little easier to maintain. Don't want to sacrifice quantity for quality and finally... truth be told... I am thinking up analogies and refs for 24-36 hours before, how rich the piece is that can be a reflection of how much spare noodly time I get. It's a fun process and I must admit I've enjoyed having fun with them. I know if my editor was a little more strict I wouldn't have as much...
