Cleveland Browns Select Baylor WR Josh Gordon

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Tony Grossi ‏@TonyGrossi

A source told me if Josh Gordon had trasnferred to small school instead of sitting out in 2011 he would have gone very high in 2012 draft.

It's not a low risk, it's not nearly a safe risk.

I think the kid has all the talent, but this isnt a guy who will likely make an impact this year either.

I like the pick, but people really need to slow down with this kid.

He is a huge risk with almost no production to this point. Much like Little.

And while im happy with Little, I don't know if the odds are in our favor on situations like these.

Heckert has said they expect him to play & contribute right away. Doesn't mean he will, but shows how much they love the kid & that he'll get every opportunity this season.

Adam Caplan‏@caplannfl

Gordon tested very well on mental part of predraft interviews, that helped him get more interest over the last 48 hours or so.

By all accounts, he's tested well on the mental part of his interviews, so there's no proof that he can't learn the system quickly.

And unlike Little with UNC, Gordon practiced with Utah last season.

FYI: Adam Caplan was on 850 apparently to talk about this. I just saw that he was on, so I didn't listen.

3% body fat, despite not being in a training facility until about 2 weeks ago.
24 on the Wonderlic.

Starting to sound a lot like all these other guys Heckert has taken. Guys that have done something wrong, but are actually pretty good people.

36 inch vertical also has great hands and is 6'3 225 and has been clocked at 4.4. The guy that was drafted from Georgia Teach who ran about 2 routes is worth a second rounder and this guy isn't? I love the risk taking. Being conservative before this years draft has gotten us no where. Adding a potential number 1 wr when you have very little talent at the position is a huge move. One scout said he was "closer to Green then Julio Jones!"

#Browns GM Tom Heckert said Josh Gordon will be No. 1 WR in the NFL and has "elite" skills

How is that any different than the one dude on our team who threw another guy through a glass door? Were you complaining then?

No, I was thinking "we got too many dudes who get tossed through glass doors. It's about time we started doing some of the launching."

The thing is, the lack of production could make him a steal.

He hasn't played since 2010 so teams don't have a ton of tape to begin with and when he declared for the supplemental draft, it gave teams less than 2 weeks to do their homework. Heckert has likely done more homework on Baylor than any other GM in the league (Taylor/Griffin/Wright) and knew Gordon already. Gordon visited us on Thursday and Friday and I believe we're the only visit he got in because of how rushed his process was. We talked to him, Phil Taylor and his former coaches and apparently everyone loved him and made the "character issues" seem like a non-issue. Even RGIII was lobbying the Redskins to go get him and a QB doesn't normally go to bat for a shithead or a waste of talent.

Everyone is saying how dumb it was to spend a 2nd rounder in the supplemental but what if the opposite is true... what if, given the time and opportunity to adequately scout him, teams find he's easily worth that price and we just benefitted by having a huge head start in a frantic scramble for information? Heckert said that he was putting in a 2nd round bid regardless of our slot. That tells me that it wasn't just us trying to beat everyone to the punch, it's that we had at LEAST a 2nd round grade on him and liked him better than our 2013 draft options. To get a guy with #1 upside who we like better than guys at the same spot in 2013 AND to get him a year earlier is awesome.

Who knows if he pans out but I'll say this: this is the kind of move we needed to do. It's bold, it's assertive and it adds a dynamic to our receiving corps that we didn't have. I don't have any expectation that he'll come out and play well right away because of how raw he is but I'll be damned if I'm not excited to see him play.

Well done boys, well done.

Probably won't see too much of this kid in 2012, but my hope is he can make a Greg Little-esque turnaround with hard work.

This kid is super raw.

ROFL @ that story

Oh my god, an athlete who SMOKED WEED! ALERT THE PRESSES! HOW DARE THEY LET HIM INTO THE NFL. HOW DARE THEY!

Sigh.

By the way, he didn't totally sit out last season. He practiced all year with Utah.

In the last 10 years, what notable players have come from the Supplemental Draft? Not challenging it, just curious.

Haven't really heard a lot about good players taken in recent years.

b00bie's breakdown: :chuckles:
