Dawg Pound among top 5 landing spots for Michael Vick in 2013?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If the choice is between Vick and his 20+ turnovers and subpar passing ability or Weeden with his 20+ turnovers and inability to throw a ball without staring down his receiver for ten seconds, I'll take Vick. At least Vick has the potential to be an elite quarterback in the right scheme and with an offensive line that can, you know, actually block defenders. Weeden's ceiling is probably an average NFL quarterback.

He's 32 years old & has been in the league for 10 seasons. He is what he is at this point in time, and he is not elite. He's had 3 seasons with a QB Rating above 80 and has had decreasing #'s in Comp %, TD %, and QB Rating over the past 3 seasons.

What kind of contract do you offer? I don't disagree with your post, my comments weren't based on his relativity to Weeden, but his individiual limitations and abilities/career marks as an NFL player.

I don't know if his agent takes a 1 year contract (that's what I would offer) and make the movefor Bridgewater in 2014

That's a good question. To be honest, I don't have the grasp on NFL salary rules that I do on the NBA rules, so it's hard to say. I'd imagine it'd be at least two years and probably three. On the plus side, Vick can presumably be had for less money than he would normally demand because he's coming off such a disappointing season.

And really, I think a lot of this is pending whether or not we end up with Kelly. Vick makes a ton of sense with Kelly at the helm, but not so much if we end up going a different route. Alex Smith is another potential candidate if we land Kelly, and yet another candidate I wouldn't really want otherwise. Plus he looks to have lost his starter job in San Francisco, so it's probable he'll be on a new team in 2013. The same goes for Tebow. Say what you want about him, but he was basically born to play in an offense like Kelly's.

And I bring those three guys up specifically because they're all (probably) available and could help this team win games in a Kelly offense, assuming of course his NFL offense is at least similar to his NCAA one. Also, all three of those guys have proven they can be starters on winning NFL teams if surrounded with the right personnel. I'd say Vick and Smith are legitimate candidates to be playing here next season if Kelly is the coach.

I agree that, right now, he's not elite. My point was that, unlike pretty much anyone else available this off-season, he has that potential.

I'm confused, did Vick get cut?

In all honesty Vick is leaps and bounds above Weeden in my opinon, and if we got Chip Kelly i actually like the idea...We draft are future replacement and put him behind Vick, one of his worst problems is getting sacked and losing the ball i actually think are O-line could protect him pretty well....Now im not saying he'd come in here and win a superbowl or anything but he would do a hell of alot better than Weeden ever dreamed of including in the playoffs... Vick is actually the first QB to ever go into Lambeau Field and win a playoff game....

It's hard to say which quarterback I'd go with until we know which system the Browns plan to run. Vick would be great in a pistol type of scheme.

I'm wary of Alex Smith on the Browns unless he were here to battle Weeden in preseason. I watched a lot of Smith under Harbaugh, and he became a game manager who doesn't take a lot of shots down the field. Think McCoy with better measurables and running ability. I don't know if he challenges defenses vertically and horizontally enough to be in a pistol system.

Vick is awful. I'd take Weeden over him, easily.

What world do you live in? :chuckles:

I will take my chances with Vick over Weeden on 9 out 10 NFL teams (or more).

Vick has never been more than average. Given his age and amount of hits he's taken, who knows how many years he has left.

His athleticism has blinded people to fact he's been mediocre his whole career. And he's on the downside. Add that with all the baggage he has, I cannot think of a worse guy to give a lot money to.

Not too mention he's just as turnover prone if not more. He will take off with the ball and is known to cough it up. He's also been known to throw pic throughout his career much like old man Weeden did in his rookie year - but I'll at least toss the rookie, even if he is 29, some slack because he has played less professional football.

I'm not opposed to an upgrade at QB but not Vick, because he's really not an upgrade.

Not only is Vick way over rated, I would puke everytime some asshat reporter was being original with a Vick/Dog Pound joke.

No thanks, I rather take my chances with our current roster of craptastic qb's than add Vick to the mix.

Vick>>>>>>>>>>>>>Cassel or Quinn.

I'm suprised the Chiefs aren't on that list with Andy Reid going to be the Chiefs new head coach.

I don't want him here just because of all the bitching that will be done here over the dog fighting scandal.

The guy did his time I don't see how something that's in the past and has nothing to do with football is being brought up so much. I get that he is average but Weeden isn't going to be above average either. At least he adds a new dynamic with his legs to the offense.

And who gives a fuck if the mainstream media wants to jab at us because of it? We are the browns, we have been getting ripped on for years. What's another year of it going to do? It's not like he is the future, it's just a stop gap. Throw him a two-year incentive based contract.

Vick is average at best and on the decline. Weeden at least has some room for growth.
