DeAndre Liggins Waived

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Let's not get crazy here. Shump will start. Liggins played a good game, but that was at home against the Nugs. Role players always play better at home.

I believe Liggins belongs in our rotation, and he might be part of the reason that we trade other pieces, but as of now, that spot is Shump's and then JR's.

You cant develop a point guard by not playing him.

Lue Runs Liggins/Felder/Mcrae as utility guys. none of them are core rotation pieces.

Neither Felder nor Mcrae average more than 11 minutes a game.

Korver ,Frye, Jefferson is the rotation.

Williams looks like he will be a 4th guy which means the Liggins/Mcrae/Felder minimal minutes split will continue on a smaller scale when shump returns.

The point is that Liggins should be a core rotation piece, at least until JR is back at full strength which I believe might not even happen this year. And if he is to be a core rotation piece it probably makes more sense to use him with the starters at this point.

RJ needs to be pulled out of the core rotation if we hope to get anything out of him in the playoffs, since he is playing too many minutes for his age and all his offensive stats are falling off a cliff. Hopefully Williams will let us do that.

We have to be careful about Korver's minutes too, especially approaching the playoffs.

Ill have to disagree here. Jefferson has been struggling with his shot around the paint. adding a guy like Williams Puts less strain on RJ while RJ's shooting still opens up the floor.

You still need to get RJ out there and keep him in the 14-17 miinute range.

If Liggins wants to displace Jeffer then he will need to find a jump shot. Once Shump goes back to the bench liggins become obsolete. in the rotation and is est served as a utility player.

perhaps with some work Liggins can work his way into the rotation next season or in the event of injury he can be brought in.

Keeo Liggins as an in game adjustment piece and don't let RJ develop any rust.

RJ is shooting 29% from 3 this year and Liggins is shooting 39% so I might take my chances with Liggins jump shot over Jefferson's. Liggins does need to work on taking the shot more.

But maybe you were meaning to refer to Williams with respect to the jump shot; Liggins cannot fill the SF/PF combo role RJ does.

Right now Liggins is playing 10-15 MPG and Jefferson is playing 20 MPG. I would like to see Jefferson down at the 10-15 MPG range and Liggins and Williams boosted.

yet liggins has no impact on jeffersons minutes. they take up different spots on the court.

Liggins is a void 3-16 feet meaning he isn't moving defenders around the pocket. and the offense is stagnant when he is on the court.

That's with a big chunk of his time being with the starters.

Liggins three point shooting is from the corners. your not gonna have him taking threes outside of the corners with any consistency.

so you have a guy who is specifically a corner 3 point shooter and is no threat to the defense when moving across the paint.

As much as I hate to agree with Tyronne Lue.. ill have to agree with him on his utilization of Liggins.

When Shump returns liggins will be competing for minutes against Kyle Korver not Richard Jefferson. Lue has already said those Jerfferson and a lot of lebrons minutes at the 4 is going to Williams.

Liggins will return to his utility platoon with JJ, mcrae and felder depending on which ever one is active.

Don't really need to make Liggins part of the regular rotation to reduce Richard jeffersons minutes.

I disagree with you saying the offense looks stagnant with Liggins out there.. This is not what I see. It looks pretty good to me and the ball is moving.
The offense looked stagnant in the 4th quarter last night but it wasn't because of Liggins.

The biggest surprise for me was Liggins actually looked halfway decent the few minutes he played point guard last night. Maybe this is something we should try to develop a bit more if we’re not gonna bring in external help?

Liggins has the lowest offensive rating on the team. if you don't like the word stagnant use another word. whatever it is overall his team defense hasn't negated his slow unproductive team offense.

Sure then, I agree. But the offense still looks good with him in so his ORTG really confuses me.

Guy is just not an NBA level player: It's just not just his shot, his whole ball handling is off. Stands upright and the dribble goes up to his chest even when he is trying to get past defenders. Can't seem to lower his body and get the dribble down. Don't know how you can get minutes if you can't either shoot or handle the ball as an NBA wing

I was going to respond to this advocating for Liggins by saying “Well, ball handling just isn’t part of his game”, and then I realized how stupid that sounded.

He still looked good in the starting lineup. I had the most fun watching this team this year when he was in the starting lineup..
He can only look good next to good offensive players. He does bring something else that we lack to the table...
In his limited time yesterday he did have 4 steals.

Liggins' defense is NBA level. When he started with Kyrie, LeBron, Kevin, and TT that lineup was top-3 efficiency.

For some bizarre and stupid reason, the staff have gotten it in their heads that Liggins is a pure point guard now. He doesn't get minutes as a wing defender anymore and it's ruining [ruined?] him. Also, his ball-handling isn't bad.. he can bring the ball up court and his vision is fine. It's only when you ask him to be Steve Nash [again, %^&*$#@ stupid] he looks sub-par.

I looked at this season's stats and his 3P% is fine too. He's assisted on 94% of his threes and shoots 44%. For comparison, Danny Green is also assisted on 94% of his threes and also shoots 44%. I don't know what more can be expected of him.

Sorry his ball handling is terrible: he often has to look down even because the ball gets loose even when he's not under pressure. Liggins starting is a small sample size and just like Derrick Williams teams take time to study film and gameplan for a plaer. The team didn't look bad when the non-scrub rotation players where in: When Liggins gets in he is so useless on offense that the only way to get the Clips to pay attention to him on offense was him bringing the ballup

3pt% also doesn't take into account ability to get your shot off. His release is slow so teams have time to get back to him even if he's initially open and his sub par ballhandling makes it hard for him to pump fake and drive or just blow by an over commited defender. You can shoot a 100% from 3 but if teams can just run you off the 3 point line and you can't do anything else with the ball that is anywhere near NBA caliber (i.e. dribble, pull up jumper, quick first step, pass) your going to be unplayable.
