Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Totally false. Only reason people want Haywood is because his contact if non-guranteed until August 1st. No one actually wants to pay Haywood $10 mill. If we can't get anything for Haywood, we're just going to cut him. Didn't matter though, some team will get desperate and give us something of value for it. Just s matter of waiting for the right time.

That’s what I said. I never said anything about a team paying Haywood $10 mil... by waiving his contract post-trade a team gets salary relief or cap space that can be used for future moves.

Got my Shumpert jersey in the mail yesterday. Glad to see its money well spent!

If he knew how to use the glass on wide open layups he would have deserved 11 million a year.

:doh (31):

I'm glad he is back. Amazing to think New York brass thought he was a locker room problem and hard to coach. He has some limits offensively, but he is a GREAT locker room guy with LeBron as the Alpha dog. I thought he was a little overrated as a Knick, but his transition defense is just elite.

Very happy he re-signed. As is, his defensive abilities make him worth the contract in my opinion. He has shown flashes of being a useful player on offense too, so now it's about consistency on that end for - if he achieves that, he's worth way more than what he got.

I expect Delly to be next one.

I guess to follow up, one could say Woj has a ridiculous amount of Laker-based sources, who at this point are trying to drum up interest in the word Laker in the desperate hope of getting SOMEONE

If I had to pick one or the other, I'd pack JR's bags for him.

I'm going to be somewhat surprised if either or both of them walk. I think the market for JR is going to be not as good as he had hoped, and I think the Cavs will match any offer for Shumpert that doesn't go above 10-12 million a year.

About what I expected. Great to see they have the starting guard rotation locked up for at least the next four years. Now to bring back Smith and Delly, as well as whatever they can get for Haywood.

Oh, and I guess sign that LeBron James guy at some point, too. Word on the street is that he might someday develop into a solid rotation player in the NBA, if someone would just give him a chance.

Ive said this for years and its been ignored. He is connected to three franchises: LA, NY, and MIA. That is it.

Here's what I came up with for what Shump's contract would look like assuming they used 7.5% annual raise. I assume they did given our tax situation. I have numbers for all signings and Thompson in the offseason thread.

2015-16 $ 9,000,000
2016-17 $ 9,675,000
2017-18 $ 10,350,000
2018-19 $ 11,025,000
Total $ 40,050,000

I think he's worth his contract, and wasn't an overpay. I don't care what anyone says, finding 3-D players in this league is tough. Especially at his age.

He's has elite defense, and shoots a good 3 ball. He's athletic, he can attack passing lanes.

Bringing him back was a no-brainer.

Yeah I thought Shump was getting 12 million after seeing Aminu's figures

He just turned 25 last week, so this locks him up through age 28, and 25-28 are the absolute prime years. In a couple of years, $10/yr will be MLE-type money.

Not worried too much about potential or upside. He probably is what he is at this point. Maybe some improvement at the margins in the second season with his new teammates. Maybe a percentage point or two on his FG/3 pointer percentages.

Surprised no one has said, I can't believe we gave a guy who had a PER of 11.1 with us $40M.:)
