Players Who Could Go

Asdrubal Cabrera - He's a free agent after this season, the Indians have a stud shortstop waiting in the wings who will likely be ready by July, and he still might be able to net something of value. He's the one Indian who could get dealt regardless of where they're at in the standings.
Justin Masterson - He's a free agent as well, but far more important to this year's team. If the Indians are contending, they'll simply hang on to him and give him a QO this winter.

Players Who Could Be On the Radar

Michael Cuddyer - Good hitter, right-handed who hits LHP well, can play OF and 1B, veteran leader, familiar with the AL Central - seems like the perfect addition to the Indians. It might come down to the Rockies' asking price.

Mike Adams - On a last place team and a free agent at year's end, he looks likely to be dealt. He's a solid setup guy if healthy, and the Indians will need an additional bullpen arm or two.

Jesse Crain - Houston might not ask for a ton (assuming he comes back healthy)

Matt Albers - See Jesse Crain...also, familiar with team

Aramis Ramirez - Another perfect fit for this team but with Milwaukee in 1st Place, a trade seems unlikely.

Corey Hart - Has battled injuries but he is a RH power bat that would help against LHP...might not cost a ton either.

Jason Hammel - Chicago will certainly be looking to deal him, the price shouldn't be outrageous, and he's a solid starting pitcher should one of our starters go down.

Chase Headley - He has a decent bat and Gold Glove-caliber defense, but his price tag might be too rich for what the Indians would likely offer for a free agent-to-be.

Jeff Samardzija - The Cubs will be asking for a lot and he's already said he's going for top dollar which makes his acquisition unlikely

YESSSSSSS.

Aguilar + ...?

No interest in Aguilar, Rizzo is locked up long-term.

Lindor or Bauer is most likely the only prospect with enough weight to get this deal done.

Would have to be a pretty substantial package if neither of them are included.

Tyler Naquin/Clint Frazier, Cody Anderson/TJ House, Jose Ramirez, Francisco Mejia

With the way Bauer is pitching, don't think it would be smart to let go of years of him...

In MLB The Show 14 the Cardinals gave me Shelby Miller, Lance Lynn and Carlos Martinez for Asdrubal Cabrera. We should look into that.

Rays trade rumors: David Price trade talks heating up

With just over five weeks left before the trade deadline, it appears that the chances of the Rays dealing left-hander David Price are increasing rapidly. According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, "it has become increasingly obvious that the Rays likely-- if not absolutely, positively-- are going to trade Price over the next 5 1/2 weeks until the July 31 deadline".

Topkin notes that most people within baseball believe that the Dodgers are the favorite to land Price, but also lists the Cardinals, Giants, Braves, Marlins, Angels, Athletics and Indians as possible destinations. The Rays would prefer to send Price to a National League team and would probably not trade him to an AL East rival.

Price, who turns 29 in August, has pitched to a 5-7 record and 3.81 ERA in 16 starts with Tampa this season. The Rays currently have the worst record in all of baseball at 30-46 and sit twelve games back of the AL East-leading Blue Jays, meaning that they have likely given up on their chances to contend this season and are more willing to deal Price for a large haul of prospects this summer.

Price is under control through the 2015 season, meaning that any team that acquires him would get a year and a half of his services as well as two potential playoff runs with him as part of the staff. The Rays have historically gotten good hauls of prospects for their aces, sending Matt Garza to the Cubs for Hak-Ju Lee and Chris Archer and nabbing Wil Myers, Jake Odorizzi and Mike Montgomery from the Royals for James Shields.

At this point, it seems like a Price trade could happen soon, and is very likely to occur before the July 31 deadline. Although Jeff Samardzija and a couple other front-line starters are potential trade candidates, Price seems to be the most coveted arm on the market right now.

The Rays would want to much for David Price.. The only way I see the Indians taking him if he signs a contract extension

Too much market, not enough minor league depth to make that move happen.

I see them making minor moves. I could also see them trading Cabrera and either going with Aviles/Ramirez or calling up Lindor.

That said, I'd give up a good package of prospects for Michael Cuddyer.

I'd like to see us make a move for Lester.

I wonder if the club would consider Audy Ciriaco for SS if they want to deal Asdrubal? The guy has done nothing but hit since they signed him as a FA from the Tigers' system. He has hit away from Huntington Park, too.

27, never played in the Majors, only batting .272 in AAA...I don't see him getting the call over Aviles/Ramirez.

Well, I was hoping for info other than what you can read from his milb.com page would tell you. To me, the replacement for Asdrubal for the rest of the year would have to be a defensive upgrade.... and Aviles has not shown he is and neither has Ramirez. I can't gleen this from a box score so I wasn't sure if anyone knew. He has always had some pop in his bat but his contact rate and having no prospect pedigree was what held him back before.

Of course, I could also refute it by saying that he is the same age as Marco Scutaro when he finally got his bigleague call. In fact, very similar parallel- latin american signing, guy who was viewed as org filler by his first team, never given a shot even in the minors, leaves as a minor league FA only to blossom when another team shows some faith in him. Always had pop and versatility. I'm not sure if his hitting can be trusted, but that is why I asked the question- if anyone has seen him or heard anything that would point to improvements he has made that would make one think his bat has not been a total flash. Because if he can defend his position he would be an upgrade over both guys you mentioned, and would also be someone that you could easily slide away for Lindor once he is ready.
