Indians Trade Deadline Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well, I was hoping for info other than what you can read from his milb.com page would tell you. To me, the replacement for Asdrubal for the rest of the year would have to be a defensive upgrade.... and Aviles has not shown he is and neither has Ramirez. I can't gleen this from a box score so I wasn't sure if anyone knew. He has always had some pop in his bat but his contact rate and having no prospect pedigree was what held him back before.

Of course, I could also refute it by saying that he is the same age as Marco Scutaro when he finally got his bigleague call. In fact, very similar parallel- latin american signing, guy who was viewed as org filler by his first team, never given a shot even in the minors, leaves as a minor league FA only to blossom when another team shows some faith in him. Always had pop and versatility. I'm not sure if his hitting can be trusted, but that is why I asked the question- if anyone has seen him or heard anything that would point to improvements he has made that would make one think his bat has not been a total flash. Because if he can defend his position he would be an upgrade over both guys you mentioned, and would also be someone that you could easily slide away for Lindor once he is ready.

I haven't seen the guy - wouldn't you rather me not pretend like I have? :)

I'm just saying the pecking order is pretty clear - Cabrera, then Aviles, then Ramirez...and then it's Lindor's job when deemed ready. Maybe Ciriaco gets a September callup, but barring a ton of injuries I can't see him getting the call.

A's going all in, that's a pretty big haul for the Cubs. I thought Russell was the future for the A's (similar to us trading Lindor).

b00bie, what are your thoughts on this deal?

I think the deal makes a great deal of sense for both teams.

Kudos to the Cubs for getting Addison Russell, who is an ELITE prospect. Straily can help them now as well.

The A's obviously are going for it, and they got out in front of the pack and netted two starters for essentially one major prospect.

If Russell moves off short, and I believe he will eventually, I like it a bit more for Oakland right now.

They'll have the shark for next year too I believe.

@jonmorosi: Indians get Chris Dickerson from Pirates for a player to be named or cash.

What us the update in Morgan?

Giambi to 60-day to fit him on the roster.

He is still hurt. Haven't heard anything on the 2nd opinion, which means it probably wasn't anything positive not to mention he had to go for a 2nd opinion after almost two months of rehab. You get to enjoy Chris Dickerson in the mean time.

Bartolo Colon is available.

I know the Mets have long been a rumored destination for Asdrubal, but I don't see it with the Mets being a shit sandwich.

From MLB Trade Rumors:

  • Scouts for the Indians have been told to focus their attention on Rays minor leaguers, MLB Daily Dish’s Chris Cotillo reports, and Cotillo wonders if this could suggest that Cleveland is revisiting talks for David Price. Cleveland and Tampa discussed a Price trade during the offseason, as Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported, that involved Carlos Santana and Danny Salazar going to the Rays. (Tampa Bay also had interest in Francisco Lindor but the Indians consider Lindor virtually untouchable in any trade.) A new trade package, Cotillo speculates, could be Santana/Salazar for Price and a couple of Rays prospects, hence the Tribe’s interest in scouting Tampa’s farm system.

I would definitely look into that deal for Price. From the inconsistency that Santana and Salazar have shown this year, I would be okay with losing them. Then hopefully we would be capable of keeping Price longterm with the money that comes off the books between Masterson and Cabrera.

Only if teams have learned their lesson with bad contracts (Verlander) would we get to keep him.

I suppose Santana is expendable...I'd be down with using him in a package for Price if the Indians can pull it off. More reluctant at including Salazar in the deal though. Even though he's been inconsistent this year, he's shown too much upside for me to stomach the risk of giving up on him this early. Think the Rays can be talked into taking Carrasco instead? :chuckles:

Whether I include Salazar or not depends on the quality of these Rays prospects we're targeting.

Oh I would fucking do that trade 10/10. Get Santana off this fucking team so the fascination with him over at Let's Go Tribe can END.

Anyone saying they'd rather have Salazar because of upside over David Price needs to just go sit down. Salazar could only dream of being anywhere as good as Price.
