Kyrie Irving

I think one of the most important things about the winning streak is how badly opposing point guards have been doing against us. At some point we have to talk about Irving taking his defense to another level as well. Mozzy has been huge in allowing Kyrie to gamble, but Kyrie has also been doing a great job at keeping them in front of him.

The Cavs had Kyrie defend Batum in stretches, letting Shumpert or Dellavedova try to deal with Lillard, while Irving conserved some energy. Lillard seemed to have much more success going against the others, especially Shumpert who could not deal with Lillard at all on the P&R. So, even though Kyrie didn't defend Lillard the whole game, he was light years more effective against him than we have seen in previous encounters. Nice job by Kyrie and the other guys who helped with team defense (like Moz) to deal with Lillard.

Now the question is if Kyrie can be this aggressive with LeBron on the floor. If he can, we will be deadly because all of the D will try to collapse on him and LeBron can cut to the rim for easy buckets.

But where does that leave Love? I still think he can get his shots, he just has to make them for once. Not sure what his problem is.

That is just music to my ears. After our winning streak, watching point guards dominate us hurt really bad. Hearing Kyrie talk about being fed up of him constantly getting called out for his shoddy defense and actually doing something about it speaks to his character as well as his potential. I hope someone calls out his lack of passing, haha. If he can start consistently putting up 20 and 10 with this defensive effort, there's no doubt in my mind he can pull in an MVP trophy at some point in his career.

Kyrie Irving has been absolutely dominant during this eight-game winning streak. I counted up his stats and here is what I came up with over the last 8:

PPG: 27.625
RPG: 3.625
APG: 5.5
TOPG: 2.5
SPG: 2.0

(Obviously the 55-point performance tonight really helps his scoring average, but look at these percentage numbers below!)

FG%: .513
3PT%: .500
FT% .878

Just insane numbers he has been putting up! Not to even mention how improved his defense has been. He has a better FG% than Lebron during this eight-game stretch and trails only Mozzy ( .533 on much lower attempts).

you don't have to count them and do the math yourself, the last 8 games are here (and are better than what you had)

28.4 points on .539/.554/.889 splits

It is so nice watching him grow from a draft prospect to what it looks like he may becoming now.

Truly blessed to land him all those years back. Even LeBron hasn't given us a 50+ home game

When I watch the way Kyrie moves and his shot selection, I always find myself thinking, "This is the player Larry Hughes thought he was."

Amazing WINNING performance from Kyrie. Loved the fire from him on both ends and the leadership he showed out there on the court. 11 3pt'ers made is insane and that last shot was cold blooded.

In terms of scoring there aren't many better guards in the league...

The Cavs now have 3 players who have went for 50+ points at sometime in their career(LBJ,Love,Kyrie). Thats amazing when you think about it since they are all 30 or younger. I wouldnt be suprised if Kyrie did it again at some point in the season tbh.

Now that just makes me sad... We will never get back those years where The Growler was our second option...
