Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He can do it right now when waiters gets back. He was among the league leaders to start the year in effective field goal percentage rivaling affalo.

He shot between 35% and 40% from 3 all four years of college, and between 85 and 89% from the line all four years of college. The length of NBA defenders will probably prevent him from ever becoming a high-volume scorer from beyond the arc, but he should be fine for floor spacing purposes.

With Waiters coming back tomorrow delly should fall back into his normal role.

That game against Golden State was a great example of Delly's value to the Cavs. He played relatively small minutes but had a huge impact on the playing group. His ball movement woke up the stagnant offense. His intensity set the tone for more aggressive defense. Plus he nailed a couple of key 3 pointers.
He is definitely has value.

It's refreshing to see a guy who's put into a bad situation on defense where it's a 1vs1 or 2v1 break and he stands his ground, moves his feet and keeps his hands up straight. I hate when a guy doesn't try or commits a soft foul that results into an and one.

Dellavedova at the double

By Jonathan Healy Updated 11 hours ago

Another day in the NBA and another impressive performance by Matthew Dellavedova as the Australian guard registered his first career double-double.
Dellavedova had one of his best matches in the best league in the world, reaching double figures in points and assists as the Cavs went down to the Oklahoma City Thunder at home.

The 23-year-old finished with 11 points - on four-of-eight shooting - while also dishing out a career high 10 assists in a standout individual effort.
But it wasn't just at the offensive end where Dellavedova shone as he also did some excellent things on defence while matched up against some of the Thunder's best.
Less than two minutes into the contest Cavs coach Mike Brown introduced Dellavedova into the fray and straight away gave him the unenviable task of guarding Thunder star Kevin Durant.

Now Durant did catch fire later on in the match to finish with 35 points, but it's worth noting that he missed four of his first five field goal attempts as he was harassed into tough shots by the tenacious Australian.
"He didn't get under my skin," Durant admitted after the game.
"He plays hard, you can respect a player like that but I didn't pay him any attention."
Dellavedova was doing it at the other end too, as he connected on a three-pointer from the corner early in the second term to put the Cavs up by five.
Durant found his range shortly after to put the Thunder in control, although Dellavedova almost helped the Cavs pull off a miracle as he run the point with aplomb during the entire final term.

The Australian ended up playing 33 minutes and it is worth noting that he has only seen more court time in a single game against two opposition teams this season.
He played 41 in a loss against the Pacers last month and was seen for 34 minutes against the Spurs in December.
That's the two teams that lead their respective conferences, while Friday’s opponent - the Thunder - have the equal second best record in the NBA.
It goes to show that coach Brown has the upmost faith in Dellavedova and believes he is more than capable of rising to the occasion against the better teams in the league.

"One thing Delly's going to do for sure is fight," Brown said after Friday's game.
"He's going to get up in your chest and he's going to bother you, he's going to show his hands so he's not going to foul you. He makes you work for points."

Dellavedova finished Friday's match with a plus-minus rating of +8, the third time in succession that he has led the Cavs in this statistic.
While the Cavs are unlikely to feature in the playoffs this campaign, they should be set to feature in the post-season in the future if they continue to show faith in Dellavedova.

@ Redeem Team Awesome video. I've been wanting to see Delly clips for a long time. Love the 2:19 where he is running around in the circle like my border collie and the Thunder are chasing him only for him to pop out a pass to Hawes. Swish a 3!! Priceless! LoL :D

I imagine his next contract will be more, but very low, based on his undrafted status and the cavs record. Do other teams know his strengths? Will the cavs have to bid against teams to keep him in 15-16?

Cavs are paying Bennett 11 times Delly's salary and they pay Sergey three times Delly's salary.
So is Delly not paid enough for his contribution or are the others paid too much?
Actually the real question is: what other undrafted rookies in the history of the NBA have contributed to a team better than or equal to Delly?

I love Delly, but there have been plenty. Recently Jeremy LinSanity at the Knicks.
Also - Avery Johnson, Jose Calderon, Brad Miller, David Wesley, John Starks, Bruce Bowen, Ben Wallace.
If he can get that 3 point percentage up closer to 40, consistently sink that pull up jumper (which he has started using in the last two games) and add some penetration to the hoop - then there is no reason that he can't match some of the guys on that list. He has the BB IQ and competitive attitude that can't be coached. His intangibles are off the chart.

I was thinking of avery johnson when i was watching delly. they both point out passes to other guys to make sure the open guy gets it. Delly has a coaches brain for sure. I'd like the cavs to try and get a multi year deal on him so they can get good value for money.

That's a good list of solid players!

There has been some Delly bashing on FTS ( I know shocking) on his size, value & future. After last night's win over the KNicks, both Dion & Mike Brown was very quick to praise Delly's contibutions to the team. I've always seen Dion just flat out play aggressively with Delly on the court as he confirmed that by saying, "Ah Delly I love how he plays defense, that tenacity gets me going when I'm out there with him. He's such a hard worker. Has the respect from the team"
MIke Brown"s interview.

Quotable – Coach Mike Brown, praising rookie guard Matthew Dellavedova …

The stuff that he does for us on the floor doesn’t always show up in the stat sheet, and he’s what a winner is. He’s going to have a long, long career in this business because of the fiber that he’s made up of. He’s gotten better every day. He watches film every day. He works every day on the court. You can see it, you can feel it – not only as a coaching staff, but his teammates feel the same way, too. The respect he has on our team is unbelievable.”

I thought it was cool they made special efforts to come out publicly to let us know how important he is to the team.
