Carlos Carrasco being in this rotation really scares me. Odds are really against him succeeding IMO.

Have to give him a shot.

With Masterson having a foot out the door, giving up on him would be a pretty big rush to judgement especially how he flashed in 2011.

Tomlin is pretty terrible too. 20 spring training innings dont change the fact that his slow, straight fastball consistently does not miss bats and gets hit hard. Carrasco at least holds a little more potential.

If Bauer isn't ready by late May to replace either of them, then we're probably in trouble anyway

Carrasco is a better option then "Throwing up meat balls Tomlin" if he can keep his temper under control and not beam guys! Really wanted to see Bauer...

We're all going to have to come to the realization that they may never get anything material out of Bauer.

Guys who can't control their fastball consistently will simply never materialize as starters in the league. Until that changes, I'm not expecting him to make an impact.

This whole situation comes down to options. Carrasco had none left, Bauer and Tomlin did. I bet the Indians did not want to lose him since it was pretty much guaranteed he would have been picked up by another team...you don't get rid of guys with arm talent like Carrasco for nothing in return. If he had options left, however, Tomlin would have been the 5th starter. He pitched pretty well this spring and you know what you're going to get out of him.

Oh thank goodness. Was originally hearing that Carrasco was going to be the 4th man and would have been slated for the home opener. Would have had flashbacks to Fausto Hernandez's last Opening Day/home opener <shudder>....

I am glad it's Salazar, but would have been much happier with Carrasco than Tomlin.

Just wanted to post this is here too. We are doing a Fantasy Baseball league for here on ESPN. If anyone wants to join either message me your email for the invite or leave your email in here!

I think we're expecting too much too soon out of him. I don't think he's the ace he was once thought to be but he's 23 - still plenty of time to become a very good starting pitcher.
