That's not why Arizona traded him. They would have kept him if he fit the mold of their GM not wanting any player that has a personality. His outdated, old school mentality on baseball is exactly that. Outdated.Problem is Bauer can't control his pitches.. In which case he's useless to a big league club... Arizona knew this..
You're simply not going to get a high level pitching prospect for that little of return-- no way unless somebody pans out with some luck... Bauer was a big time name for awhile now and was obtainable...
It's really just a 1 year extension off his arbitration years, but as long as he doesn't flame out completely, it's a bargain.
